This is interesting...
Satellite Dish Ordinance - Official Web Site of the City of Hazleton, Pennsylvania
The way I see it, this virtaully bans satellite tv from the City of Hazleton.
No satellite install company is going to obtain a construction contractors license. No satellite customer os going to go through the headache of applying for a permit.
This is nonsense. And the Hazleton city government should know better.
Both Dish and Direct should broing their mighty legal departments to Hazleton and crush them with a huge lawsuit. Not for money. But to bury them in paper and drive the City government to waive the white flag..
BTW notice the ordinance applies only to dishes "attached to a building"....

ORDINANCE 2009-5

An Ordinance Providing for the Proper Placement of a “Satellite Dish” and
Setting Fees and Responsibilities Regarding the Placement of
Satellite Dishes within the City of Hazleton

WHEREAS, the City of Hazleton has an obligation to insure the health, welfare and safety of its residents; and

WHEREAS, satellite dishes are commonly installed upon homes and other structures throughout the City of Hazleton; and

WHEREAS, improperly installed satellite dishes can pose a safety hazard to the citizens of Hazleton.

NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Hazleton desires to establish an Ordinance providing for the permitting and inspection of the placement of satellite dishes within the City of Hazleton.

SECTION III: RESPONSIBILITIES OF SATELLITE DISH INSTALLERS

Any professional satellite dish installer must possess a valid construction business license.

This appears to have been in effect for over 7 months. I would think by now, if it was actually being enforced, that there would be some kind of public outcry and legal action from the two main dbs companies. Could be the lawyers have already threatened. Interesting, indeed.

This isn't a big deal at all.
I own a rental aprtment in Hazleton and there is good reason for this . If you ever drove through Hazleton you'll understand why.
Most houses with satellite service have old dishes just hanging off the roof, waiting to fall down, not to mention the other 2 and 3 unused dishes bolted and left by D* and E* everytime new service or an upgrade is made.
I paid $10 and I can have 3 Satellite dishes on my rental apartment. If one needs to be replaced, you just do the same, replace it.

Can't you get around the "attached to a building" by doing a pole mount? Not that a pole mount works for everyone, but it may avoid some costs...

And now you know the rest of the story! ;)

From the wording its just not satellite dishes, its any kind of antennae.

They didn't do it for safety concerns.
They did it for the same reason every other municipality does it. Money.
