HBO Confirms “Preliminary Discussions” For ‘Watchmen’ TV Series http://deadline.com/2015/10/watchmen-tv-series-hbo-discussions-1201564953/
HBO has spoken with Zack Snyder, director of the 2009 movie Watchmen, about a potential Watchmen TV series.“Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred, but we have no additional information and no deals are in place,” the network said in a statement following a report by Collider about the meeting with Snyder.San Diego Convention CenterI hear that the discussion of a possible Watchmen series took place months ago, and there are no active talks going on with Snyder, who is busy working on a slew of tentpole DC movies: Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Justice League. Because of his full plate, he might not be able to be closely involved in a Watchmen series even if it goes forward.DC Comics’ Watchmen, published by 1986, was created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons and colorist John Higgins. A Watchmen series would expand the DC brand to another Time Warner TV network, joining the CW, which has Arrow, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow, and TNT, which is developing Titans.

Zack Snyder in talks to bring Watchmen to HBO https://games.yahoo.com/news/zack-snyder-talks-bring-watchmen-210003152.html
On top of dealing with final edits on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder has found some time to return to an older project. The director, who was both celebrated and eviscerated by different groups of fans for his directorial take on Watchmen, is reportedly in talks with HBO to adapt Alan Moore's classic graphic novel for the small screen.Although there are no details on whether or not the series would be a re-imagining of the original film, a prequel series, or a sequel to the events that transpired in the original film, Collider has confirmed the director has met with the studio on a few occasions to hash it out.Considering it's television, however, fans of the comic and film shouldn't get their hopes up just yet. Most networks engage with showrunners and producers in multiple talks over the course of months, sometimes even purchasing the rights to the show or starting production, and then cancelling the series before it's even aired due to an amalgamation of issues.David Fincher's comedy series Utopia, for example, was already in production stages before HBO pulled the plug because of budgetary issues, as Collider pointed ouThat being said, if there was ever a perfect time for HBO to develop this series, it's now. The success of shows like AMC's The Walking Dead and their own Game of Thrones has proven that there's a demand from mainstream audiences for top-notch produced genre shows, and with more networks picking up genre scripts (AMC's adaptation of Preacher, for example), HBO is going to want to compete.More from polygon.com:
