Usually when I add an add-on, the newly added channels only have guide data for the current program and the next one. Most of the time it takes almost a full day for the guide data to fill in. Is there a simple and reliable way to get the additional guide data loaded?

Hey dare2be. Once content is added to the account, it should be available within 10-15 minutes while the guide info can be updated the next day after the nightly update. You can attempt to speed the process up by preforming a hard reset when unplugging the receiver for 15 seconds and plugging it back it to the wall outlet.

The way to force a guide update is to turn off the receiver (standby) and all connected Joeys if a Hopper system and make sure nothing is scheduled to record for the next 30 minutes or so.
I thought I knew that trick, but maybe I didn't wait long enough.

I have the Fire Stick, so I bought a Recast that gives me correct 2 week guides for all of my locals. I got tired of dealing with the 211K OTA Dish guides. Every one of our network stations (ABC,NBC,CBS,PBS, FOX, & MYTV are either missing or show the guide from some other station. First it was one or two, now all of them over the past few months. The few diginets that have guides are the only ones that are correct.

I've read many contradictory posts on the Recast performance.

I bought an Amazon recast a few weeks ago on Amazon Prime day. I bought the 4 tuner version with the 1TB hard drive (on sale for $179). So far, I really like it a lot. It was easy to set up, and it integrates nicely with my Fire TV stick. I like that it comes with a channel guide that includes all of the sub-stations. I tried it both wired and using WiFi, and it works well either way. The picture quality is very good. I also like that the recast box does not have to be near your TV. I have mine in my computer room next to my router. This location was also close to where I mounted the antenna, so I did not need a long cable run from the antenna to the recast box.

It does not have all of the features that my Hopper with Sling has, but it works well for recording my locals, which is why I bought it. I wish that it had a signal strength meter so it would be easier to point the antenna. When I was setting up my antenna, I connected it to my TV (which has a signal strength meter) so that I could point the antenna to get the best compromise between all of the stations that I receive. Also, you can't view recast on a PC, or while out of the home using your Fire TV. It only works out of your home on Android or IOS devices. These are only small problems to me, and Amazon might update the software in the future.

Overall, I am very happy with the recast.

That is awesome and since I’m trying to find a way to expand on my fire stick, which is my primary means of streaming, I might just have to check this out

I also bought the 4 tuner 1 TB recast TV to evaluate.
1) The tuner is similar to the dual AirTV tuner on my Hopper3. The antenna feed is split between the Hopper3 tuner and the recast TV. The Hopper3 found 60 channels while the recast found 62 channels. Only about 48 channels have decent signal on both the Hopper3 and the Recast TV. The remainder have a poor signal and pixelate a lot.
2) The Hopper3 Guide has program information for 35 channels while the Recast has program information for most channels. A few of the Recast channel guide stations say “Program information currently unavailable” and several say “Paid programming”.
3) One thing I hate on the Recast TV is that the program guide does not include the station call letters or the channel number. Instead it uses the network name. Since I receive both Dayton and Columbus stations this means I have several that are named the same. This is a serious flaw in my opinion.
4) The picture quality of both the Hopper3 and the Recast TV are both excellent.
5) My Recast TV is hard wired to my Gigabit home network.
6) The Recast TV works well on my 4K Firestick, regular Firestick, and the Fire TV app on my Iphone.

The recast seems from all reviews to work well. Not being able to use out of home on the firestick is big missing part for me.

I also have Recast. The channel numbering has been brought up on the Amazon Recast forum. What would be nice if the Recast app would have the complete guide. If so you could remotely set up a recording. The only thing the app will let you record is shows currently playing.

I too hope that Amazon includes the channel numbers in a future software update, but at least the channels are displayed in numerical order in the channel guide (by their virtual channel number). With the channels listed in numerical order, I can tell which channel is which.
