The Digital Bits reported software units sales ratios as of 3/25/07:
YTD:...................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 42.13
Since inception:....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 79.77

The Digital Bits now reports software units sales ratios as of 4/1/07:
YTD:...................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 43.16
Since inception:....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 77.88

They are publishing Nielson Videoscan numbers.

Is it just me, or does it seem odd that HD-DVD can show a small improvement in YTD sales but show a decrease "since inception?" Over a week? Does this likely reflect a correction/adjustment of the figures?

The Digital Bits reported software units sales ratios as of 4/8/07:
Week ending 4/8...Blu-ray 62.4.......HD-DVD 37.6
YTD:...................Blu-ray 69.4.......HD-DVD 30.6
Since inception:....Blu-ray 56.4.......HD-DVD 43.6

Normalized to make comparison with previous posting easier:
Week ending 4/8...Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 60.26
YTD:...................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 44.09
Since inception:....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 77.30

In other words, HD-DVD is holding it's own, or perhaps even regaining a little ground.

Thank you. Actually, I've now set up a calendar reminder to check and post when the results come out.

I still think they're fiddling with the numbers since they show YTD and "since inception" sometimes going in opposite directions. How could that be?

Maybe they are tallying the totals in Florida. Or using Diebold equipment....

OK, didn't mean to go all PIT on ya, but the joke came to mind (and I'm a registered Republican... although I consider myself one of the troublemaking liberal ones)

Bill Hunt (Digital Bits) has been a little slow this week, site still not updated since 4/18. But I did find a link on another form to nxtbook.com's April 22-28 edition of Home Media Magazine with the Nielson Videoscan report for the week end April 15:

Week Ended 04/15
Blu-ray: 61%
HD DVD: 39%

Year-to-date
Blu-ray: 69%
HD DVD: 31%

Since Inception
Blu-ray: 57%
HD DVD: 43%

In other words, HD DVD still regaining some ground. ;)

No wonder Bill Hunt is a little slow this week, he must be in hizzy fit. (He's always been a strong proponent of only one format for high def discs, and backs Blu-ray because of more studio support, more capacity, etc. etc. )

I was wondering why they didn't update today.

Same ole, same ole....

Glad I haven't bought a player.

Rather belatedly, Digital Bits has released the Nielson data.

Software units sales ratios as of 4/15/07:
Week ending 4/15...Blu-ray 61.......HD-DVD 39
YTD:...................Blu-ray 69.......HD-DVD 31
Since inception:....Blu-ray 57.......HD-DVD 43

Normalized to make comparison with previous posting easier:
Week ending 4/15...Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 63.9
YTD:...................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 44.9
Since inception:....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 75.4

It's just as CochiseGuy reported, HD-DVD seems to be regaining some ground.

HD DVD re-gains a lot of ground

Nielson Videoscan report from Home Media Magazine. (The Digital Bits is still slow in updating, no new "My Two Cents" since Wednesday)

Software units sales ratios as of 4/22/07:
Week ending 4/22...Blu-ray 52.......HD-DVD 48
YTD:...................Blu-ray 68.......HD-DVD 32
Since inception:....Blu-ray 57.......HD-DVD 43

No change in the Since Inception ratings, and a two percentage point gain for HD DVD Year-to-date. And a really big week for HD DVD as sales were almost even with Blu-ray.

Digital Bits has released the Nielson data, almost identical to the previous post (rounding difference?).

Software units sales ratios as of 4/22/07:
Week ending 4/22...Blu-ray 53.......HD-DVD 48
YTD:....................Blu-ray 68.......HD-DVD 32
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 57.......HD-DVD 43

Normalized to make comparison with previous postings easier:
Week ending 4/22...Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 90.6
YTD:....................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 47.1
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 75.4

HD-DVD seems to be coming on strong.

Digital Bits has released the Nielson data for 4/29:

Software units sales ratios:
Week ending 4/29...Blu-ray 71.......HD-DVD 29
YTD:....................Blu-ray 68.......HD-DVD 32
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 58.......HD-DVD 42

Normalized to make comparison with previous postings easier:
Week ending 4/29...Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 40.8
YTD:....................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 47.1
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 72.4

HD-DVD seems to have had a blip but has now taken a dive in sales over the last week, compared to BD.

Funny how slow Bill Hunt was in posting Videoscan numbers the past few weeks when HD DVD was moving up, but rushed them right out when Blu-ray had a good week.

But, whatever - numbers are numbers, and Blu-ray had a good week. Hurray for Blu-ray! :bow

But, it doesn't sound like either high def format sold a lot of disks last week. While BD sold 71% of total unit sales last week, the Year-to-Date numbers didn't budge:

Software units sales ratios Week ending 4/29:
Week ending 4/29...Blu-ray 71.......HD-DVD 29
YTD:....................Blu-ray 68.......HD-DVD 32

You noticed!

You noticed that, too, eh? I'd say very few sales. Now that I know they sell over 100 million DVDs per month, the almost half million high def discs per month really puts a new perspective out. Maybe title sales will pick up over the summer.

Yep, funny how good Blu-ray news travels faster thru that conduit. Frankly, I'm getting tired of the rah-rah out of some in each camp. HD DVD isn't the savior, and Blu-ray isn't the anti-Christ (well, maybe Sony is ;) ). And as things seem to be slowing down in the War Zone, I gather I'm not alone in tiring. One more BS story of Wally's World selling sub $200 players "real soon now" or Blu-ray conquering the world, and I may just have to take a vacation from the whole business for a while.

Digital Bits has released the Nielson data for 5/6/07.

Software units sales ratios as of 5/6/07:
Week ending 5/6....Blu-ray 60.......HD-DVD 40
YTD:....................Blu-ray 68.......HD-DVD 32
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 57.......HD-DVD 43

Normalized to make comparison with previous postings easier:
Week ending 5/6....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 66.7
YTD:....................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 47.1
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 75.4

Seems to be another week of particularly weak sales, with a slight improvement for HD DVD.

Just to note, Digital Bits still hasn't released the Nielson data for 5/13/07. Must have been a good week for HD DVD. ;)

Week ending 5/13...Blu-ray 62.......HD-DVD 38

Just to note, Digital Bits still hasn't released the Nielson data for 5/13/07 or 5/20/07. Maybe they've lost interest in updating.

From Home Media Magazine:

Week ending .........Blu-ray 58.......HD-DVD 42
YTD:....................Blu-ray 67.......HD-DVD 33

From Home Media Magazine:

Software units sales ratios as of 5/20/07:

HD DVD moving up a bit.

Interesting - pretty static for the whole month of May so far, and HD DVD consistently doing better weekly as opposed to YTD.

With all the releases on both formats on May 22, it will be real interesting to see next week's numbers.

Nope- I did not copy the numbers correctly. I'll fix it now. But the chart was correct.

From Home Media Magazine:

Software units sales ratios as of 5/27/07:
Week ending .........Blu-ray 69.......HD-DVD 31
YTD:....................Blu-ray 67.......HD-DVD 33
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 58.......HD-DVD 42

Normalized to make comparison with previous postings easier:
Week ending .........Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 44.9
YTD:....................Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 49.3
Since inception:.....Blu-ray 100.......HD-DVD 72.4

The see-saw continues. Blu-ray now outselling HD DVD by 2.2 to one for the week. POC effect?
