Well like I said, I think you'll find your wrong..

I have an open wireless router, and THAT doesn't give anyone access to my local network. It only gives someone access to my internet.
Could someone smarter figure it all out? Maybe, but I doubt it. I've tried all sorts of tools so see about my "insecurity" and nothing gets anywhere but to the internet.

I think if you search a little you'll find that it's just BS about someone hooking up a laptop to your outside plug and infiltrating your network.

It depends on want you're doing with your network and how you have it set up. Yes, if nothing in your internal network is shared, then all they will see is the internet.

But, I have 3 computers, a large shared network hard drive, & 2 printers on the network. All the computers are set up for file sharing. My computers hard drives are set up with specific user permissions, the network hard drive has a media folder that is read-only except for a specific user.

The point here is that there is a lot of setup required. Keeping unwanted people off your network is the first level defense that you lose if you leave a router (wireless or Homeplug) open. Plus, do you want someone using your internet to download CD's and/or child porn ? That stuff can be traced back through your IP.

In these days where they say you shouldn't throw unused credit offers in the trash without shredding, why take the chance ?

Here are some set up tips.

Included with each adapter is usually a utility CD. You can install this utility on a laptop. Unplug the Adapter from the router and connect the adapter to your PC. Here you can set the network password to "HomePlug". The software should also list what other devices are seen by their MAC addresses. Here is where you can verify that what the adapter is seeing is actually the DVR. I forget exactly where, but you can get the MAC address of the 722 on a menu screen somewhere. (Note that is usually off by one from the ethernet adapter's MAC address).

Will these power line networking devices work with Apple's MacIntosh operating systems?

Thanks
