Homeland Season 5 Review http://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/homeland-season-5-review/
Three episodes were provided prior to broadcast.“You can take the girl out of the CIA, but, you know,” quips one of Carrie Mathison’s new confidants in the season five premiere of Homeland. It’s a remark regarding the fact that our favorite bipolar CIA analyst has quit Langley cold turkey, and is in fact living in Berlin, dating a cute lawyer, and walking her daughter to school each morning. Most befuddling, she’s not doing all of this as a front for Saul and her government buddies back home in an attempt to infiltrate the Düring Foundation, a private security firm she’s become involved with. She’s actually, gulp… happy.I, like all Homeland fans, can not in good confidence argue for the infallible sanctity of Showtime’s award-winning series. Co-creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa have put to film some of the most stomach-churningly tense moments of television I have ever seen. But they sometimes don’t seem to entirely know what their fans want from the series (remember when Dana cut school and went on a road trip with a boy in the middle of the show about terrorism? No? For the best!) Ironically, once the show ditched its central conceit – the Brody vs. Carrie arc – in season three, it got into the pattern of tackling a new topical world issue each season, and it’s never felt more solid.Set two years after the attack on the U.S. Embassy in the fourth season, season five continues that trend, trading out last year’s drone warfare with an Edward Snowden-level data leak perpetrated by two guys working in an underground Berlin porn website who stumble upon some classified documents within the CIA’s Germany branch. The CIA thinks a massive terrorist organization is suddenly on the prowl, and the two clueless hackers only have a fleeting grasp on the trouble those 1,361 files will get them into.Unfortunate for Carrie (Claire Danes) as well, when her new boss Otto Düring (Sebastian Koch) requests her to use her former contacts and expertise to visit a refugee camp in Lebanon that’s under particularly harsh scrutiny from dozens of local militant groups. Carrie worries the job – which has so far let her lead a happy, normal life in Berlin – is pulling her back into the world she left behind. Since this is Homeland, she’s essentially right on the money, and runs into some explosive trouble in Beirut when she discovers the true intent of an assassination plot on the Düring Foundation may not be all it seems.

'Homeland' Season 5 Preview: Get Briefed on Carrie's New Life, Her New Man, and the Future of the Series https://www.yahoo.com/tv/homeland-season-5-preview-get-briefed-on-133040583.html
You might not recognize Carrie Mathison when we catch up with her in Season 5 of Showtime’s hit thriller Homeland. She’s no longer working as an analyst for the CIA; instead, she’s living in Berlin, dating a new man (Alexander Fehling), and working as head of security for a German billionaire. She’s actively raising her daughter Franny. She even smiles sometimes! But of course, she can’t stay away from the CIA for long: A massive data hack sends the agency scrambling, and Carrie becomes a suspect in the breach, bringing her back into the orbit of CIA lifer Saul Berenson and steely hired gun Quinn. Yahoo TV went to Homeland executive producer Alex Gansa to get the full briefing on what to expect from the new season… and how much longer the show might run.

Claire Danes on her character's shift in "Homeland"
Season five of “Homeland” is off and running, as Claire Danes plays the high-strung, bi-polar Carrie Mathison. The character finds herself in a different place and mindset. Charlie Rose spoke with the Emmy-winning actress about the show's longevity and her role in its critical success.

‘Homeland’ Season 5 Review: Showtime Spy Series Aging With Vigor & Grace https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/homeland-season-5-review-showtime-200215560.html
Playing out almost in real time with actual events in the Middle East and Europe, Homeland returns for its fifth season on October 4. The Showtime series is showing signs of age, but as my video review above says, only in the best way as it matures with vigor and grace. In fact, with the exception of the remarkable first season, this might be my favorite season of Homeland yet.Having left the CIA after the disasters and drones of last season, Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison has set up a new life for herself and her daughter in Berlin as the head of security for a philanthropic German billionaire – who has several agendas of his own. Of course, this being the shadowy world of Homeland, no one ever leaves the spy game or their own demons, and a massive CIA data breach soon draws Mathison back into her old life. The revelations of American surveillance of German citizens has echoes of WikiLeaks and Angela Merkel’s cell phone being listened in on by the U.S. But that is only the lift-off in a Season 5 full of ISIS, civil war and more unrest, refugees and geopolitical moves (military and otherwise) that feel right off breaking stories from this morning’s cable news and the latest near-proxy clash between President Obama and Russia’s President Putin. With Season 5 of the multiple-Emmy-winning series’ lens entirely set in Germany, historic and intrigue-drenched Berlin is itself a character in the show. Yes, Saul Berenson, played by Mandy Patinkin, is back and back at the agency as the bureaucratic survivor he is. So is increasingly adrift Peter Quinn, portrayed by Rupert Friend, still asking a lot of questions about what this life and job is really all about.

I like episode 1 of this season. Seems to be a fairly major reboot with Carrie's situation. Quinn is going to have an interesting season as a straight up hitman for Saul.

‘Homeland’ Boss on Carrie’s Fate, Quinn’s Prey and What’s in Store (SPOILERS) https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/homeland-boss-carrie-fate-quinn-prey-store-spoilers-020044617.html
Spoiler alert: Do not read unless you’ve watched the Oct. 11 episode of “Homeland,” titled “The Tradition of Hospitality.”The second episode of “Homeland” season five found Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who’s now working for the private During Foundation, trying to protect her boss during a visit to a Syrian refugee camp in Lebanon — and narrowly escaping an assassination attempt. But was he the target — or was she? The episode ends with a shocking reveal: Quinn (Rupert Friend) — who has been commissioned by Saul (Mandy Patinkin) as a rogue assassin — finds out that his next target is Carrie herself.Executive producer Alex Gansa talks to Variety about what these latest twists mean for our favorite CIA-agent-turned-private-citizen.

Finished up the season last night and I enjoyed it quite a bit. This season was a little less centered on Carrie's bi-polar issue although it still played a part. Read it has been renewed so there are a couple hanging threads that could be continued although this show tends to ignore previous storylines. We are left to ponder the fate of Quinn. I do hope next season isn't centered on a damaged Quinn trying to recover.

Showtime released Season 6 Episode 1 online.

Not impressed. Felt more like a cheap episode of Law&Order rather than Homeland. It doesnt look good for the season. And way to go to ruin a great character

I absolutely hate what the writers have done w/ the Peter Quinn character. Horrible way to treat what's arguably one of the most interesting characters on TV. After last episode its pretty obvious we know where he's headed.

I felt the finale was depressing on several levels. It was a solid season until the end.

Wow what a finale! This is the best season since the second IMO.

Can't wait until next year.

Agreed. Heck of a finally... Wasn't happy with what happened at the beginning but the end was solid.

Can't wait to see what Dar has up his sleeve next season. That message he asked to be delivered from prison was a code for something...

Just finished up season 6 last night. I agree with several previous posts, did not like what was going on with Quinn the beginning of the season, made me uncomfortable to watch which I suppose was the intent. Seemed obvious to me how his story would end. Too bad, he has been one of the more interesting characters in this show.

Early hints for season 7 that Carrie may be going back to the CIA. I wonder if the ending of season 6 will continue to season 7, they have not always continued stories from one season to the next.
