I currently have a HR22 and two older legacy boxes. I want to upgrade to the HR34 and keep the older legacy boxes..
I have the slimline-5 dish outside.. I'm just wondering what I should purchase besides the HR34, and a Swm16 with the splitter and power inserter.

If you call DirecTV and tell them you want to add the HR34 to your setup, they will tell you what you need and they'll install it. Is there any reason that you want to do this yourself?

Yup cause I don't feel like moving addresses again ..
so move home
try and get the HR34 for way less than what the MSRP Lease fee is
get the HR34 installed
"move" back

damn thats what I did...got the HR34 for free (replaced 2 R22's with it)

Or pay for the HR34 lease fee and the SWM16 ;)

Lol I might just try that. I'm off to see what the easiest way to move is nowadays.

Great. Just called and got the free Genie and had to pay for installation.
Thanks.

what legacy boxes?
will they work with swm?

the older Legacy boxes will work with a SWM16 which the OP will need as he will be up to 9 tuners.

There are 4 Legacy outputs on the SWM16....per the specs
The four "Legacy" ports are compatible with all older Receivers, however, each single tuner receiver using the "Legacy" port requires a cable running directly to the SWM-16 unit. DVRs using the "Legacy" ports require 2 cables coming back to the SWM-16 unit.
