Image Entertainment Signs Agreement with DISH Network® to Provide Pay-Per-View/Video-On-Demand Content

Image Entertainment, Inc. DISK, a leading independent licensee and distributor of entertainment programming in North America, today announced it has signed an agreement with DISH Network, L.L.C., a subsidiary of DISH Network Corporation DISH to provide Pay-Per-View (PPV) and Video-On-Demand (VOD) entertainment programming to the more than 13.584 million DISH Network® subscribers.

“We’re very pleased to be working with DISH Network to bring our vast library of entertainment content to their subscribers,” said Steve Saltman, senior vice president of Worldwide Television for Image Entertainment. “This agreement greatly expands our ability to deliver programming into households across the country.”

The agreement gives DISH Network the ability to offer subscribers select titles from Image Entertainment via its PPV and VOD platforms.

“DISH Network is excited to bring even more PPV and VOD offerings to our already substantial collection of more than 6,000 titles,” said Andy Karofsky, vice president of Programming for DISH Network. “Image Entertainment offers a great selection of HD movies, television series, comedy specials, and other sought-after programming we’re confident our viewers will enjoy.”

What I want to know is what movies and shows does Image Entertainment hold? To be honest I never heard of them until today.

According to wikipedia they have quite a few tv shows, stand up shows, and concerts.

Hopefully that means access to those.

Some good programs and specials there. Not a bad library.

I was actually using DishONLINE last night on my 722k and MAN IS IT HARD to find stuff on there!

Dish needs to take a look at what DirecTV did with its VOD and emulate it!

Lots of 'B' type horror movies too. Image is currently establishing a presence on youtube as well (they have a couple of full length movies available - Hercules (in widescreen) and a few others that I can't remember).

They really need to look to Comcast (and probably other cable companies, I just don't have experience with them) for matching selection and usability. When I had DirecTV I didn't find their VOD much better than Dish's, Comcast blows them both away. I could deal with the wait for downloads assuming it was otherwise as good.

Seriously Scott, the Dish VOD stuff is absolutely terrible. I bet they are re-doing all of it for the 922, but right now it is just horrible.

Dish needs to lower their PPV prices to way down! The $1.99 channel is too much as far as I'm concerned.

Well I might pay an extra $1.99 for an HD movie I could keep indefinitely on both my DVR's. (Both a 722 and a converted 211).

Almost 10 years with Dish now and I never ordered anything.

Image was HUGE in Laserdisc.

This also may explain what happened yesterday.

I upgraded a customer's home theater and took the opportunity to run an ethernet line to a switch and feed his Escient music server, Bravia TV, Blu Ray player and...what the hell...his...ViP 622 as well.

I mainly was doing it so he could work the DVR from a browser, but decided to show him the Dishonline feature as well.

I'm in the middle of telling him how crappy it is and that there is never any decent free stuff when I did a search of HD/1080p and up popped some FREE full length motion pictures that actually were worth the time of a download. "Darkman" with a young Liam Nilson was one.

Perhaps that's part of what Image brings to the table?

Yes. This has been my major complaint from the beginning: The titles are poorly organized. Dish should organize by portals according to the channel the TV shows appear and organize the movies better because the SORT feature really isn't that good. Then more HD content.

No. There has been free HD 1080P for quite some time. Also, the movie library has steadily increased into the thousands for quite some time now. Also, a lot of "cable channel" content available since the beginning of this year. However, with this new deal we should see even more.

Yes, they do need to clean up the set up of DishOnline, not very user friendly

When is Dish going to get Howard Stern TV??? Now that is something I want!!

Probably never. If memory serves, InDemand is owned by the major cable companies and they like their little arrangement of not providing content to the satellite TV folks. I don't think we'd see it online for the same reason.

It's not a technical issue at all. It's purely a business situation. The satellite carriers have the ability to provide VOD over the sats and over the Internet using their boxes.

I haven't been with Dish in over two years but am thinking of coming back in a few months. DirecTV has a lot of free VOD. If I remember correctly, Dish's VOD was basically PPV. Has that changed? Do they offer any free movies via their VOD service?
