So, I live on the Gulf Coast (MS) and as you know, we have a notorious rep of having hurricanes and small tornadoes and such....my dish is mounted on my roof, so in the event of a storm happening, I plan to take my dish down....when the storm passes, would I have to call a service tech to come and set it back up or can i just mount and point and get lucky?

Put corresponding marks on the pole and the base of the dish so that you can put it back exactly where it was.

Better yet, save yourself the headaches and leave it there. Mine went through Katrina and it took me about five minutes to reaim it.

If its gone when you get back from an evacuation event due to wind...you're probably not going to have electricity to watch TV anyway, or gasoline to run the generator.

Can you tell I've been there, done that? :D

I am surprised your dish stayed in place and that it didn't fly away after hurricane Katrina.

I was surprised my HOUSE was still there. :):D

But it did stay, they said we had 120mph wind here...I don't know how, all that was in it was two 2" lag screws in the center holes, and a couple standard screws in the smaller holes, screwed into my outside rafters at the peak of my roof.

Now, I have to say, that it was a phase 3 dish, one of the new Slimline's may not fare as well. But the slimline's have the monopole's to help stablize it, with the larger surface area...who knows...

The old 3 LNB dish measures 18"x20" = 360 sq. in. ±. The new 5 LNB dish measures 22.5"x32.5" = 731 sq. in. ±. Wind loading may exponential. In any event, the new dish is twice as big as the old one.

The roof is the last place I'd mount it.
