Hi there

We are about 40 miles north of Watertown New York State- near the border with Canada.

We have a 500 prepaid dish system and we cannot get a lock on any signal- my husband has tried moving things very slightly but nothing- an help greatly appreciated in simple terms please cos we are not very good with this stuff!

Thanks

The dealer that sold you the prepaid system should be happy to come out and install it for a fee. That is the way prepaid systems are sold. No freebies just "paid". Prepaid systems are put together by DISH as a method of clearing out inventory of leased returns, you could have some faulty equipment in your setup from the quality of DISH's refurbed equipment but DISH isn't going to give you the warranty service of a subscribing customer you are just a zip code to them.

Make sure you set the skew(angle)of the dish, and it's elevation(tilt), to the listed recommended settings in the menu according to your zip code. Try those exclusively first. And set them up on the Dish 500 first BEFORE mounting it on the mast/arm. The values they recommend are pretty accurate IMHO. Especially on a Dish 500 looking at 110/119 satellites.

Make sure the mast is plumb(flat). Get a leveler, and make sure it is plumb/(bubble in between the two lines).

If it is not plumb, you will go crazy trying to get a signal on just one satellite, not too mention two(110/119).

If you need a professional setup, you could always go back to the store where you got it, and have them do it.

Find out how much it would cost. It may be worth it too you.

Also, for an installer, as long as you have a clear line of sight, this is BY FAR the easiest setup on the planet for them.

1 cable from the 119 LNB(or 110, does not matter anyway) on a properly pointed, skewed elevated Dish 500, to the DP301.

This is the biggest piece of cake to them, so try to haggle down if it sounds like too much.

Worse they can say is no.
