Hello, all. I just became the proud owner of a C Band used mesh dish. I would post pics but I'm not allowed to right now. I'm trying to get started using C Band and KU Band FTA as a hobbyist, and it's hard to find any resources on what type of equipment I need to get and where to get it. I have several questions though:

1) I want to access the dish and internet through my PC; what type of DVB card should I get? I've read good things about Skystar 2, especially with the type of software can be used with it. I would also like a card that supports onboard (hardware) video encoding, to take a load off my CPU. I also assume that due to the needed heat dissipation that I'll need to add an extra fan.

2) The dish hasn't been used in a couple years, and the motor (actuator) looks rusted. Any recommendations on what I should get? Also, I want an actuator that won't suck too much juice out of my DVB card (possibly able to connect to a secondary DC power source).

3) If I need to get a new Cband and KUband LNB, any recommendations on what kind to get?

4) There is some minor damage to the mesh. It's slightly pulled out and I'm wondering the best way to repair it, put it back in place. I'll post pics of the damage later. Thanks.

I don't think you can move the dish with a PC card, you will need a 4dtv or a old analog IRD, this will be a plus because you will get more free channels like this.

For lnb's they cost more than other types but are great, I would highly recommend the Norsat 8215 or 8115 for C-band and the 4206A or 4106A for Ku-band.

If you need a new arm Venture 24" should do you fine.

These places have all you will need when it comes to big dish:

If you need a dealer I hope one is near you:
