ATSC 3.0 is being rolled out as a new OTA broadcast standard in the US. Tablo ATSC 3.0 OTA DVR is exclusively available for pre-order now.

Because of the Dolby AC-4 codec needed to provide audio, this version is going to be HDMI direct connected to ONE tv set. It won't be a network tuner. However, ALL FOUR tuners are ATSC 1.0/ATSC 3.0 hybrid, unlike the HdHomerun 4k versions, which are 2 + 2. The HdHomerun ones ARE network tuners, BUT, they can't decode Ac-4 on the device itself, so you are at the mercy of whether the tv set you are using has native Ac-4 capability, which few do at present.

Actually happy with my HDHOMERUN now that they updated all their apps to properly decode the audio on all devices.

Correct, you need an EHD. I really don't see the allure of 3.0...are any sporting events being broadcast in 4k?

Not that I've seen. I watched the Chiefs/Bengals game Sunday from KCTV in 3.0. To the naked eye, I saw no difference in video quality between KCTC's 1.0 and 3.0 feeds. The difference is in the encoding- h.265- and the 3.0 feed used half the bandwidth of the 1.0 feed.

The 1.0 feed was 10mbps, the 3.0 feed was 5mbps.

Here in Connecticut our CBS looks amazing on the 3.0 feed when compared to the 1.0 feed.

The other three channels on the 3.0 feed looks about the same as the 1.0 feed even though all 4 are broadcasting in 1080p on the 3.0 feed.

Just wait, we'll end up with like 26 sub-channels per ATSC 3.0 station. NONE of them will end up broadcasting in 4k.

IF you have a device/tv set that's capable of decoding Dolby AC-4, the Hd Homerun would probably be a better buy for you. However, IF you don't, then the Tablo would be a better buy. Also, IF you want to use something like the Channels whole house dvr solution, you MUST have the Hd Homerun type tuner to do so. Channels — Live TV & DVR

Personally, I want an ATSC 3.0 quad tuner/dvr, however, it's still so early in the roll-out, I'm going to wait longer. I'd MUCH prefer some sort of network "Gateway" tuner, that my Tivo can somehow also use to record ATSC 3.0 channels.

There are pluses as the signal is stronger then 1.0 and the multi-path is cleaner with the 4K Homerun HD box from what was reviewed by Antennaman.

I’ll gladly wait 3+ years for STB improvements and lower prices. Maybe 5+ years, waiting for a convincing feature to persuade me. Or when ATSC 1 broadcasts in my two areas of interest stop- then I’ll HAVE to make a decision. Who knows what options I will have then? Assuming I stay on the right side of the grass.

Again I had to Google your inscrutable expression. Where do you pick these up, anyway? NO? At sea?

For anybody who cares, he is assuming he'll still be alive at that time. The expression for "dead" that this CA boy learned, was "pushing up daisies". But I imagine that expression may be inscrutable to some.

All the HDhomerun apps have been updated to convert the AC-4 audio if the device does not support AC-4 audio, so thats not an issue anymore.

So after reading this whole thread, my takeaway is that the only advantage the Tablo has over the HD Homerun for 3.0 is the out-of-home streaming capability, correct?

No that Table does not do any streaming (in home or out of home) just just a DVR.
