Is Dish Broken?

Both sat , sat radio, telecom & cell phone companies depend on adding new subs to keep their companies in existence . Without a healthy amount of new subs the churn starts to really hurt their chance of staying both profitable and in business. Since the dvr fee per receiver is a made up fee that DISH came up in the first place , they can surely eliminate it or make it go away if you have the dvr advantage pack. HD channels cost no more than the sd versions and are negotiated at the same time. Since they cost no more DISH could do something really revolutionary to attract new subs and make the AEP the best value for your money. ALL hd channels are included with AEP along with all dvr fees. Doing this would help sell dvrs for Echostar and make existing subs and new subs move to this pack to save money. It would also help get your average revenue per sub up . THat looks good to the channel providers since more people would take premiums and top 250 , and it looks good to stock holders as well. It would also slaughter the competition if they did this. DIRECTV charges you a dvr fee for their version of AEP . DISH would not be losing any money to do this sinc HD versions are already included when they negotiate the sd versions from the providers. This is what you need to gain new subs and keep existing ones as well. IN bad economic times it makes sense to eliminate made up fees like the dvr fee , the no phone connection fee , etc to show that you are truly trying to be the low cost , best priced, best equipment and value for your money. Imagine the advertising campaign that DISH could run with FREE HD included and NO dvr fees . DISH is the first company to provide true FREE hd channels with AEP. This is the way to go if you want to attract new and retain existing subs. Other wise DISH will keep on losing subs as DIRECTV keeps on gaining them.

If I recall correctly, there were no across the board fee increases by Dish network last year. This year, my bill went up $3.

College tuition in Kentucky at public universities has gone up about 8 or 10 percent a year for the last few years. Comparatively speaking, Dish fees are a bargain. The wave of the future could be college educational courses delivered over the airwaves. Maybe we could get a law passed where the state is required to pay DishSat subscriber fees for all households in which one or more individuals are enrolled in a college level TV class. (Just a thought.)

You recall wrongly. Last year's price increase had the following :

top 100 went up by $3.00.
top 200 went up by $2.00.
top 250 went up by $2.00.
AEP went up by $5.00.

The only pack that didn't go up was the dvr advantage pack . They didn't go up for two years that ended this year.

Thanks for the reminder. Not a great advance in fees, was it?

Since 2002 DISH has had a price increase every year. The fees that DISH charges are extra made up fees that they created because they could. They are the only things that DISH could reduce or eliminate to try to soften these yearly price increases. They did tinker with them this year to make it look like they are giving you something of value for your money. Like eliminating .98 cents by combining the dvr fee + additional or lease fee= $12.00 instead of $12.98. They also reduced their made up hd enabling fee from $7.00 back down to $5.00 which was what it was the year or two before last. They also now no longer list the $5.00 no phone line connection fee as a fee on your bill . They list it as {YOU SAVE $5.00} -if you keep it connected to a phone line. These yearly price increases are going to keep on hurting DISH since they are going for the lower income -low priced customers. These people won't be able to afford pay tv much longer at this rate , in these economic bad times.

Yeah 1st did not see the post would have not posted. Either way I think Dish is fine most providers are hurting right now. Overall I think Dish still has the best hardware out there and the best TV Provider in the country. I know several more people looking at making the switch from their bad cable to Dish. Once more folks see the facts and really see what is out there plus what Dish has to offer. I think things will get better. :)

The "bailouts" are payoffs. Dish has no huge labor union with hostage voters and Dish also did not sacrifice their financial institution taking on bogus loans so that a political party could stage a fabricated economic crisis.
Just this morning I Googled "Cloward Piven Strategy" after reading an article about the NYT reporter asking 0bama if he is a socialist. It is the blueprint our President is following for government led economic destruction.

Dish isn't completely broken, but it operates so badly it does not deserve customer loyalty. It is an ordeal to change carriers, and that is what has kept me hanging on for a long time. It's hard for me to deal with a company I don't respect. The money factor diminishes in importance in the face of continuing dissatisfaction. I'm at the point that I'm willing to give up some things in order to deal with a better company. It may be time to go on and make a switch. So I'll loose the best DVRs available. We'll get used to something else. U-Verse is available on my street, and Direct wants me. If Dish turns itself around I might think about going back at some future date, after a contract with another carrier has expired. Maybe making changes between brands will get easier to take. I'm close to the edge. What will push me over? Charlie saying Soon again will make it final.
