How can Jet Blue provide DirecTV? I know they don't have a tree problem. Is it that they are so high up they can simply pick it up?

I think they used a phased-array antenna like the TracVision stuff that lets you get DirecTV in your car.

Not sure what you are really asking, but the satellites are even higher up that the plane, some 22,240 statute miles, to an airliner's 24k - 35k feet; they have specially designed reception antennas, but they are always covered by signal while in the CONUS.

the antenna is similar to the tracvision low profile (like they show on top of the family suburban) its located under the skin just in front of the dorsal fin. that section of skin is replaced with a spacial color coordinated material. there is a box it sits in so its not pressurised with the plane. they have there very own channel one for corprate use one for in flight use for customers. some times its a dvr that plays back like for over seas flights. air force one has several for TV, internet , phone you name it they got it!

Seems like Frontier has had D* for about a year or more. **Flying down to Cabo a few months ago, we got service until about half way down in Mexico.
