Have you considered a c band dish? You could get a new non motorized 6ft for less than $250 with shipping. Put it on 99w and you would have nbc, abc, fox, cw, live well, metv, leasea, and a bunch of syndicated feeds. You could add a motor later and add a lot more channels. You might also look for a used c band dish already motorized for even less or possibly even free.

Is that from Sadoun? I thought he'd sold out of those...

This is the best idea. WillyV: 97W Ku will not satisfy you. 97W has no US network channels. I sense for Ku only, you would want 125W or 87W (PBS) and/or 103W (NBC) in addition to 97W.

Sadoun logged in a little over a month ago, and said he's out of those dishes. All he has left are various parts.

Hypermegasat has some 6 ft fixed dishes though, here: http://hypermegasat.com/VS-180TVRO.htm

6ft is better than nothing, BUT, I highly recommend a 10ft minimum.

I have to agree with primestar. You can find a good 10 footer for less than the shipping charges on a new 6 footer, and you wont have to worry about getting tired of it. With both C and Ku and a 10ft bud, you will have plenty of programming.

The first dish I got working was a 7.5' KTI. I quickly became dissatisfied with it because on the high FEC S2 stuff I couldn't get it locked in without tweaking the dish specifically for whichever satellite that signal was on. I would strongly recommend a 10' or larger as well. I get almost everything C-band has to offer with my 10' Unimesh.

Hello Cyberham,

I've done alot of thinking about my basic approach and it sounds like I'm being a little unrealistic about my expectations. Now, I'm thinking about biting the bullet and doing a 12 month "basic" subscription for Dish. Granted, I'll be "paying the man" again but at least I'll get what I want and when I want it. In the mean time, I'll work on a post for an eventual fta dish. I'll se what will happen down the road. My sincere thanks again to everyone on this forum for all the kind advice.

Just an after thought.... I was under the impression that C band was sort of replaced by KU or something to that affect.

That said, what types of programing does C band include?

Why are some folks not using C band?

There has been some movement away from C band, but not as much as was feared some years ago. Indeed, there are signs of increasing life on C. But the hobbyist side of things is low key, under the radar kind of stuff.

For programming, go here and click on sats near the bottom.
