The game starts shortly. Meanwhile, here is a recent update from Paul:

01/08/07

How foggy is it in Madrid at the moment?

VERY FOGGY indeed...

Well just one round of games in and 2007 has certainly given us something to think about. In fact you could almost say the World was turned upside down, at least in footballing terms.

Of the four sides who kicked off the New Year in the top-4, two of them lost (Sevilla and Real Madrid) while two could only draw (Barca and Atletico Madrid). Saying that Atletico was a 0-0 draw at home to rock bottom Gimnastic, while we all saw how Barca struggled in Getafe.

Meanwhile at the bottom of the table nearly everyone won; Real Sociedad, Betis, Levante, Deportivo and Athletic Bilbao all took 3 points, while Gimnastic drew in the Calderon.

Special mention to Athletic: they needed 13 weeks to chalk up their first 8 points while the last 10 have come in just 4 games, what a difference new coach Mane is making to the ?ions?who have the same players but look a different team.

Deportivo also did really well, wiping the floor with Real Madrid, who were appalling, but who again got lucky that neither Sevilla nor Barca could take full advantage of their slip up. Their defeat does set up next weekend's HD game very nicely however: they entertain Zaragoza, who are looking very good indeed.

Coach Victor Fernandez has formed an attacking outfit, who go all out for goal and in Diego Milito they have one of La Liga's top scorers, He was decisive as they won a cracker 2-1 against Sevilla to end the week fourth in the table, having leap-frogged Atletico (there is some justice in the World after all!)

With Capello being criticized for his team selection and tactics, another setback for Madrid could be disaster. While we should get a look at Madrid newcomers Gago, Higuain and maybe Marcelo.

So third against fourth and with Madrid having lost two in a row, should be exciting stuff in the Bernabeu and we will of course be there, you should make a date.

Cheers PAUL
