We have our own mini hurricane going on in Michigan, bring your dish in before it blows away! Not as big as the East Coast, but enough to shut down the cross Lake Mich. ferry that never sits out the weather.

Video shot by Todd Olson:
"Sunset August 3rd at Holland State Park. Sustained winds 40-45 mph at the beach. I forgot how wind at this speed turns small objects into projectiles. Sand, water, and debris lodged in every available space. It even effected your ability to breath. We had a blast."

Oddly, I seem to have been spared the worst of it. There was a 1.5' tree down in the road just a mile northwest from me, but I only had leaves and small twigs on the ground here. The BUD is unharmed.

Of course, we've still got November ahead of us. That's when we get the REAL winds...

Looks like we are getting the effects of that storm this afternoon. (Southern Ontario) The winds are really starting to blow. Not much rain yet, but the skys are very black.

It's a beautiful small gale here ! The last two days have been 40-50 mph winds off the lake, and you can see how the lake looks. We're about 2 1/2 miles SSE of that beach ( as the crow flies ). Yesterday's best wind gust at the beach was 57 mph.
:)

Uh, regular wind speeds up here in the high part of the Columbia Gorge! Another 150 big windmills have been aouthorized to fill in a few of the gaps....

That's cool ! Our area is one of several zones they are planning to use for energy windfarms. None of them have been put under construction, though. I do have neighbors with wind turbines helping out with the electric bills.

I hope they pay attention to what is available and get the variable speed drives if they need them. :up
Otherwise, they just shut down at 38 MPH or so. The smaller ones shut down at 28, so they are of little use here! You hit 28 for 10 seconds and they shut down for about 2 hours, YUK!:(
