I recently subscribed to DirecTV with local channels. I bought a multi-room system and split it up between two different houses. I have not hooked either system up to a phone line. I have installed each system different areas of the country. I called and activated my service and everything is up and running but the local channels.

Is it possible that the system can detect that my reciever is not physically in the location where the local channels are coming from? I was careful to choose a location with the local channels on satellite 101 so that I would not have to mess with multi-satelite dishes. The channels show up in the guide, but I get an error that says that they are not available in my area. Any thoughts???

Thanks!

What does outside the spotbeam area mean? Does that mean that I won't be able to recieve the locals at my other location?

Dish and Direct use spotbeams to beam locals to a specific spot. They can reuse the same TP by re-using spotbeams

as an example, TP8 can have spotbeams for Calif, MN, FL, and NY

If you're outside the spotbeam, you're SOL
