Local HD Issues

SF Bay Area
Hi, I am new to this forum but not to satellite TV. I was on DishNetwork and Directv from the late 90's until I moved in 2007. Now I am in an apartment complex that gets DishNetwork via MDU distribution.

My problem is that I am getting a great picture on both my VIP 211 and VIP 622 for all SD and HD channels except for the SF Bay Area HD locals where I get constant breakups / loss of signal alerts. I have to go though AT&T Home Entertainment to troubleshoot and I wanted to better understand what the issue could be. I know the locals come via spotbeams - is there a different LNB used for the HD channels? Is there a problem in the complex's antenna or is it with my receivers?

Sorry for the simple questions but I had an individual non-HD system before so the changes in the last few years are making things difficult to get back up to speed. Thanks!

Bob

Depending on how far away you are from center of the the spot beam, you might need a 24' wing dish for 129 to get in your HD feed from the locals. LA people get a lot of problems with that because the LA spot beam is huge.

I must be near the center of the spot because I get great reception of the LA stations

I don't understand? What problems are your referring to. I was unaware of any in the LA DMA with such problems. Outside, yes, but even those in Las Vegas still seem to do pretty well. I haven't checked the footprint in a while, but I remember even Temecula being well within and not having any LA DMA HD LIL problems as I know subscribers there. Please provide details.

I appreciate the responses but they don't help me as I am in an apartment complex with a master set of dishes and the signal is multiplexed down to each unit. I am tryiing to see if others in the complex look at the HD locals as I can't see how the problem is mine. I was hoping to see if the SF Bay spot beam is different for SD and HD locals - that could explain the problem.

Still looking for help.
Bob
