Local Stations Question

I know someone who has DirecTV and is able to get local channels from 400 miles away. However, in order to do this they had to give an address from the area where the local channels are based. How legal is this, can you do the same with DISH Network? Just for the record, the reason they are getting the local channels so far away is because those are the nearest local channels. We do have locals, but our locals are one of the few that aren't available on DISH or Direct yet.

Kind of a gray area. Anyway, with so many of the locals on spotbeams today, the area that can receive a set of locals is fairly controlled.

But to answer your question, yes it can be done. Do a search, a lot of people will refer to "moving" to accomplish this.
