ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 27, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- DISH Network Corporation (Nasdaq: DISH) will host its second quarter 2009 financial results conference call on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at noon ET. The dial-in number is (800) 616-6729.

EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS) will host its second quarter 2009 financial results conference call on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. ET. The dial-in number is (877) 500-5931

Speculation, Even with the DTV transition, Dish will see a sub loss, Cable had some dam good deals here that dish couldn't match. (Dish needs to capitalize on this in 4 months when all of those 6 month deals go away) Also, I didn't see the word on dish's promotions as much as cable and uverse was pushing. I'm expecting that profit will be up because, dish isn't spending money to acquire subs or keep the ones they got. Charlie will sing and dance (figuratively), although the singing and dancing wont help! They will continue to say that they feel that they will win the tivo case, which they may very well, but the bad pr continues to keep subs and investors away as if they were to loose, that would be the shot on the bows turn that sinks the ship for good. (Unless some buyout was to happen) Charlie might even make some empty promises which in turn he makes again at the next conference call in 3 months. After that, that would be it! On to the next one :D

Dish is too loose? :p To stay on topic, I wouldn't be suprised of another loss (of subs) too..

Expect to see more AT&T defections. They have a no poaching agreement for the old customers but there is always a way around those deals.

so why don't you short them in the market?

I don't agree at all with this statement.
I've gotten more free equipment and programming with E* then any other provider as an excisiting customer.
The past year alone I got 612 for free,and a 211k for $25.
Free HBO and Starz for 3 months, Free HBO and Showtime for 3 months, Free HD platinum free for 3 months as well as $10 off per month for 12 months. These were all excisting customer promotion. I didn't have to call up and bitch to get any of these.
I don't care what anyone says about Dish Network , They treated me better then any utility company, Including D*!

They've got a premium product. And will continue to do so as long as they have an exclusive on the ViP series. Now they need to educate the public that they have the best DVRs available. I have no idea how they could do that, and target it to the proper market.

That's really the only thing that would make me want to stay with Dish Network at this point is the DVR. There's nothing on DirecTV that is even comparable, and Directv after the 12-month discount is pricey as all hell. Plus all those sports packages I don't want or need.

All a lot of speculation for sure, but I corrected your title, as it was deceptive - since Dish has not announced anything, and won't for 14 days.

Yea, but if you call the cable company or uverse you dont need to pay the 99 dollars "hd dvr fee" they just bring you the equipment for no charge, no questions asked! While, you may have, others are not so lucky and have had to pay for thier equipment!

What if tivo won? Then that advantage is dulluted majorly! I hope tivo looses but charlies track record isnt that good either!

Well all the investors really care about is EPS. For DISH the consensus for the latest quarter is $0.66 and $2.39 for the full year. For E* the quarter consensus is $0.03 with a full year of $0.04. If they meet or beat that then expect the stock to increase if not then expect it to decrease. It is pretty much that simple anymore. Doesn't make sense as investors should be looking at more, but the market is very strange these days.

Well, we agree to disagree. I look at where Echostar and Dish are, and where Tivo is. Who's healthier? Even if they won, I wouldn't bet on Tivo surviving the long haul. They don't seem to be able to come up with a winning business model. At best, someone will acquire them or their assets.

Separately, some prefer one or the other DVR. I can't stand the slowness, and the cutesy effects, of Tivo. My ViPs are fantastic.

Come on don't you miss the great video game sounds every time you push a damn button?

BEEEEEELLLLLLOOOOPPPPPP!!!!!!!:p

First, AT&T reported dropping 95k Dish Network subscribers during 2Q according to this thread. Whether these customers switched to DirecTV, signed-on directly with Dish Network, or dumped them for Cable/Telcos is unknown...but probably some of each.

Second, Dish Network was projected to have picked-up 25k customers during 2Q due to the analog-to-digital TV transition. Don't ask me for a link on this figure, but I posted here a week or two ago.

Third, Verizon FiOS TV added 300k customers, AT&T U-verse added 248k, and DirecTV is expected to report adding 243k customers during 2Q. Additionally, Time Warner posted losing 57k customers, Cablevision lost 8.7k customers and I have no idea when Comcast will report their 2Q financials. There are too many big winners and only one big loser so far (TWC).

Offhand, I am expecting Dish Network to post losses in excess of 95k - probably around 110k. We shall see.
