This is what happens when you have an un-educated- barely making the high school grade- get 20 Million per year. In an interview after his game winning RBI in less than 13 seconds he mentions the word 'man' about 14 times. "man, I want to stay in Boston; man, this is where I want to play; man, I want to win a World Series, Man....Man...Man..." Shut up and play Manny!!! You get 20M to play a game... Most of us will not make that sum in a life time!

Well, let me say I would love to have Manny on my team!!! I think the Red Sox did the right thing, you can't trade the single best player on your team!!
It is not about trading the guy. It is about him behaving unprofessional and be a bad image for the game. When Nixon was injured last week, Francona told Ramirez (before the Nixon injury) that he was going to have Thursday off. Francona did not anticipate an injury to his regular outfielder (Nixon). After Nixon was injured, Francona went to back to Manny and asked him if he could play because he was short on outfielders and Manny response was "NO" because he had the day off. What type of attitude is that and what does say about being a Team player?
David Wells went on TV on NESN and said that Manny is either with the Team or he is going to be by himself if he does not get his act together soon. He has pissed off lots of his teammates in that clubhouse. This is the idiotic Manny that can't think about his Team and his teammates. He came across very selfish. It is very difficult to trade Manny but there are a few teams that are willing to put up with his nonsense just because he is an RBI machine. Face it he is a one dimensional player. He cannot field and cannot run. The only thing he can do is hit. That's equal to a DH in the AL.

gotta love manny when he listens to music in the outfield with his mp3 sunglasses and cuts off a throw from the center fielder. don't forget about disapearing into the green monster for a bathroom break.

Its difficult to trade Manny b/c of his contract, nothing else. There are egos in every clubhouse and winning seems to allow people to deal with that.
Actually Manny has improved defensively, he actually leads the AL "at least" in outfield assists this year.

The other day Tim/Joe on Fox looked at this and publicly said that the only reason he is leading the AL in assists is because his idiotic plays in right field in Boston (Green Monster) and lots of players run on him because his erratic plays in the outfield. This includes kicking the ball... Breaking late and sliding and bouncing the ball the other way. It is not because he has an arm like Outfileder Player by the name of Vladimir Guerrero or because he has an arm like Jimmy Edmonds. Manny is a mediocre outfielder. If it was not because of his hitting, he wouldn't be in the ML.

The bottom line is that he is a well above average player, making too much money, that has been allowed to become the jackass he is, by the same team management now bitching about him. His contract, and the closeness of the AL East race, has given him an advantage over mgmt DURING the season. He is a diva in the pure meaning of the word just like most of the top 2% - 5% of athletes, they think they are entitled to special treatment. It has absolutely ZERO bearing on his nationality, language skills, education level, religion, etc. It is purely because of his skill that his two teams (namely the Red Sox) have allowed his head to become clouded with his ego.
Brutal... My point, he was a very important part of a World Series win. He should be allowed to take a crap anytime he wants in the Monster... The Sox won a damn series, give him some space, I think you are forgetting what his efforts have done for the city and fans like you!!! I really think it was unfortunate for him to be boo'ed as he was Friday night.

It begs the questions to ask, how many players this year have refused to play (publicly) when they are not injured?
I would say that this has happened ever since I have been a kid and started watching baseball. Guys who don't match up well against certain pitchers, may ask to sit that day or have a "tight" hamstring.... You saw a lot of that when Nolan Ryan was pitching..

But he was not injured or tire or ask to sit because there was a pitcher who has given him a tough time. Also, remember that he was asked to play because one of his team mate was injured. They had also traded one of their outfielder after Nixon was injured so he could have just said "OK" and probably the Team and the Fans would have appreciated that a whole lot rather than refusing to play without a reason.
There is little or no question that Manny has an attitude problem. But he leads the league in HRs and in RBIs (bya wide margin). Rightly or wrongly guys like that get away with a lot.
