Well, after owning these Micro HD receivers for a few years now I've finally managed to boot loop one today. Back a couple of years ago I did use that TTL/USB cable I have to reload one trying to fix a record problem but I can't find that info on my computer??

So does anyone have the Geosat Pro Micro HD boot loop repair procedure you could post here for me? I've spent the past hour searching for that info and only stuff I've been able to find doesn't have the procedure listed?? I managed to find the files that I need but the actual procedure is MIA!! The links that are "suppose" to have the procedure all come back as 404 not found error and the receiver support section doesn't seem to have it either, ie, as doesn't show up when I use the useless forum search function?

Don't you just love this forum software???? [/rolleyes]

Is this what you are looking for? https://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/attachments/microhd-serial-firmware-update-pdf.80449/

Yup, that's the one I've been looking for for the past couple of hours?? Did you happen to find it using the useless search function here on the forum or did you already have that link saved in your favorites? :oldwink

Just saying........................

Thanks!!!!

I searched Google for 'MicroHD boot loop procedure' and came up with this post:

GEOSATpro - MICROHD Reboot/loop fix instructions

which mentions this post:

http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads...via-Internal-TTL-Header?p=2963448#post2963448

which gives a 404 error. So I changed it to:

microHD First Aid: Serial Update via Internal TTL Header

which seems to be the format that Xenforo uses. That link now worked and post 1 in the thread has an attached PDF of the procedure. Sure would be nice if all the old links just worked.

Well, it look like it's dead! I've tried with two different computers using two different cables and it won't take the userdb.udf with either?? In fact it won't take any files at all. Shows it's connected to a com port but it won't burn it in. Maybe I just need to walk away from it for a while before I take the shotgun to it!!

Only good point is it was the one that lightning had hit a couple of years ago and it wouldn't record via the timers nor did the RWY AV output work. I bought another one last week so I had 3 counting this one so now I'm back to 2 like before only both will work with timers now. I just hate it that I can't get this one back to at least where it was. :deadhorse2 And not only that but my OTA TV is screwed up too?? I was getting 29 channels on it and now I'm only getting 9?? WTF:wtf

One step forward and two back!

Oh, and it's looking like my heat pump is taking a dump?? And that after I just spent $6400 on a new roof last week! DAYUMNIT!!!

How's your car doing? If you recently maxed out your credit cards, that's probably ready to take a dump also, LOL.

Been there, done that...

Does the process work on another microHD?

Brian, at this point I'm afraid to touch either of the other two Micro HDs!! I'm in good shape now with two that will record off the timers and I don't want to take a chance on screwing either of them up like I did this one.

FYI when I click the Open button to burn in the .udf it sits there for about 30/45 seconds doing nothing then a popup says that the com port test failed even though when I check in Windows XP Device Manager it shows that it's connected to a com port. I can disconnect that TTL cable then connect the power supply back up to it and it just reboots every 20 seconds.

One of the two computers I tried with it is the same Dell 2400 with Win XP on it that I used to jtag this one back a year or two ago after the lightning strike. That process worked back then but doesn't work now.

Just saying...............................

Thanks

PS, and my heat pump will have to be replaced also!!:deadhorse2

Ok. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't something simple or overlooked like a cable or setting.

When it rains, it pours.... :(

Yes, and I do have a new roof though! :oldwink

But yeah, I'm with you on the simple stuff and I've gone through that written procedure more times than I care to count with the same results. :oldfrown

I have a microhd that won't reset either. been through the procedure a few times. had to put windows 7 back on the computer to do it. fortunately I had another microhd and am using it now. but I probably need to get another receiver incase this one dies... chas

Just a thought, my TTL cable has the RX and TX terminals reversed on the board.

Just like my ham radio USB programming cables, they can be com port specific using the generic Prolific drivers. Windows PCs are not helpful when they decide to update your drivers for you.

So are you suggesting that I try reversing the RX and TX cables and try again? Remember, I've actually used this same computer and Micro HD along with the same cable before to load the .udf successfully a couple of years ago.

You mentioned 2 different computers and 2 different cables. The FTDI chip cables are great and usually work without issue. The generic cables work better in my experience with earlier Prolific driver 3.2.0.0 and it may be worth a try to swap the RX and TX wires. Make sure the com port that you're using has the correct driver assigned for the USB chip that you're using. Roll back to the oldest one in case Windows updated it for you.
