Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT.O) Chief Executive Steve Ballmer will have to shop around for an Xbox 360 game console this holiday season just like the rest of us -- it doesn't come with his job.

"The Ballmer children do not have their Xbox 360 yet. I'm in the same boat as many of you," Ballmer said. "Thanks to the wonders of Sarbanes-Oxley, management does not get a free Xbox 360," he quipped at a meeting of technology industry executives.

Under financial disclosure rules, Microsoft would have to classify a free game console as income for Ballmer.

The premium version of Microsoft's next-generation game machine carries a $400 price tag.

The Xbox 360 debuted in North America on November 22 and Microsoft estimates that it will sell 5.5 million units worldwide by the end of next June.

He's having some fun, trying to seem more "in touch" with fans. While it's true he can't be given one without it counting as income, he has the opportunity to buy the special 360 that are for employees only. If I could find the old article i'd post it and pics of the special 360. He's not lying, but he's not telling the whole truth either. If he wants a 360 he just has to write the check...

What is really disturbing is that he would think anyone that gullible. There's no doubt that he could have one sitting on his desk in minutes with one phone call.

Absolutely correct. How stupid does he think everyone is??

He didn't lie though...he said he can't get on for free just because he works for MS, which is an accurate statement. If he had said he couldn't get one at all he'd be a damn liar but he didn't say that...
