I am sure this has probably been addressed but I am hoping someone will be able and willing to answer this for me. My dad had MRV installed and he also wants On-Demand. I am only seeing channel 1000 and no other shows or movies to watch. After calling DirecTV I was told he needed a LAN adapter but after doing some reading it seems to me a bridge is needed also and that should have been installed for him. at that time. What am I missing and what is he missing to have MRV and On-Demand (Direct Cinema)?

Thank you

Access to On Demand requires the installation of Broadband Deca which allows an internet connection tieing it through coax to SWM setup. On Demand is downloaded to DVR and can be viewed from any receiver in a home w/MRV Perhaps some miscommunication occured at time service was ordered.

Am I missing something here, I am connected from my router wirelessley to an access point to my HR24-500 ....
I can record from Channel 1000 as well as 1100 (if I decide to pay for the channel/movie).
I can also go directly to for example 1242 and record any of the current show on USA.

Is there other options I'm missing ?

It sound like the same thing others are doing with OUT the DECA stuff installed.
I think from what I can tell, doing the On Demand stuff without the DECA set up added.

I too am doing DoD / VoD and MRV without DECA

Maybe I too am missing the question

Does deca make it so you don't need the router ?
Doesn't the Deca connect to the router ?

I dont see how that is possible with JUST DECA as you would still need a connection to the internet to get DoD/VoD and using just your modem or modem and simple switch would not be very good; a router would be necessary.

?LAN adapter? as in a wireless network adapter that would connect via USB (NO, this will not work)

Let's start this way. What hardware models are you working with and how is it all connected now?

Or were you meaning the DirecTV DECA setup? (Yes, but you would still need a router connected to the cable or DSL modem to connect to the internet)

OK, has DECA and a router. I first thought he would not need a LAN adapter but I was told he did by a DirecTV rep. At my house, I do not have MRV but I have power line adapters that allow me to use VOD and Direct Cinema. To be quite honest I have gotten two different answers and with my own research I am now unsure what he needs, hence the question. I know the answer is probably easy but I am just missing it it seems.

Well, keep in mind that neither Charper or I actually HAVE the D* version of the internet on demand, we do it a different way.

Do these diagrams help? Notice they differ based on hardware types

If he's using DECA for MRV he will need a DECA attached to his router. A lot of people are not using DECA and the can hook up to the router via ethernet.

You also need to remember that if you plug in the ethernet to an HR24 or H24 you will disable the deca and kill your MRV (if using DECA for MRV). If you are using DECA you must have an extra DECA and power adapter to connect to your internet connection.

yep; got that. we are still trying to figure out exactly what he has and how its connected now.

I just need to go to my dad's and make sure they installed DECA I guess. He told me they installed the needed equipment for MRV. When I called Direct they had me check if he was connected to the internet and he is not. They told me I would need an adapter to connect to the net and that could be wireless adapter. I do appreciate all the responses and I hope I can get this resolved for him soon.
