mtvU Uber ( www.mtvu.com ), MTV Networks’ first service distributed entirely via broadband, debuted Monday.

The new service makes 24-hour college network mtvU’s programming available online, as well as featuring a lineup including new music, short-form series, student-produced short films, music videos, animation and Webisodes.

mtvU is currently seen on more than 730 campuses, MTVN said.

The network also announced a partnership with Cisco Systems Inc. to award 10 grants of $25,000 to the next generation of digital innovators, “empowering students to pioneer the future of this new medium.”

mtvU said the partnership will create 10 “broadband incubators,” funding students or student groups to create games, movie shorts, music videos and other fare for the broadband environment, with each project to be released exclusively on mtvU Uber.

“With today's announcement, we are handing over an entire channel online to college students and everyone who wants new music," mtvU general manager Stephen Friedman said in a prepared statement. “mtvU Uber gives them the power to create and program their own channel, and it will remain in perpetual beta mode as they experiment and pioneer the digital future.”
