Our family has friends in the Star Valley (about 50 miles South of Jackson and 100 south of Yellowstone). We all spent the 3rd week in September all around there. Drove 14 1/2 hours from Orange, California to Star Valley on Saturday, Sept 17th. On Sunday, drove around Star Valley and went hiking up this river where the last time I was there in '98 was completely covered in snow in July. Ate at Bubba's in Jackson with more friends on Monday morning and then visited the Grand Teton's (love that 1-way road construction on the main hwy) and hiked on one of the trails about 7 miles roundtrip by Jenny Lake. Watched the 2 Monday night games at a hotel and did some shopping in Jackson on Monday night. On Tuesday, my brother and I drove up to Yellowstone for the day. Left at 6:20 from Star Valley, got inside the park right at 8, got to Old Faithful right at 9:30 went it started geysering. Walked around afterwards with buffalo on the various trails. Then we drove around clockwise around the whole outer rim. Stopped at various places. Saw elk, deer, moose and lots more buffalo. A car flipped over on the highway going South above the stop where the rocks are yellow. We waited until that was cleared which took about a 1/2 hour. Stopped and ate in Jackson that evening. Fishing took up most of Wednesday in the Star Valley. Thursday was the tram ride up the hill at Teton Village and the float ride down the Snake River which took up 2 1/2 wonderful hours in the afternoon that started and finished in Moose, Wyoming. Friday, visited Jackson for most of the day where lunch was at the Cowboy Bar. Drove back home on Saturday with a pit stop at the Bryce National Park in Utah and spent the night in some busy town in South Utah and then drove through Vegas and home on Sunday the 25th.

Stormy, stormy Coast

This past weekend, we were off to the Coast at Depoe Bay, OR. We knew the weather was going to be foul, what a great time to catch some awesome waves crashing and treacherous water! :D Our room faced the ocean right on the cliff, here's some pics;
