Reality Series Scheduled for Earlier Debuts

By Christopher Lisotta
Broadcaster CBS has set the week of Sept. 18 for 20 of its 22 fall series premieres, with two of its reality offerings debuting the week before.

Friday, Oct. 20: "Crossing Jordan" (8-9 p.m.); "Las Vegas" (9-10 p.m.)
Longtime reality veteran "Survivor: Cook Islands" will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 14, with CBS's other reality stalwart "The Amazing Race 10" moving to its new Sunday timeslot on Sept. 17 with a special 90-minute broadcast.

With only four debuting series and few schedule changes, CBS has one of the most stable fall lineups among the networks. CBS has claimed the top spot among all viewers for the last four seasons while struggling to gain ground among the 18- to 49-year-old viewers coveted by advertisers. The network last season was ranked third among that age group behind an "American Idol"-powered Fox and a resurgent ABC.

The rest of CBS's premiere schedule is listed below:

Monday, Sept. 18

8p.m. (ET) "The Class" (Series Premiere)

8:30p.m. "How I Met Your Mother" (2nd Season Premiere)

9p.m. "Two and a Half Men" (4th Season Premiere)

9:30 p.m. "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (2nd Season Premiere)

10p.m. "CSI: Miami" (5th Season Premiere)

Tuesday, Sept. 19

8p.m. "NCIS" (4th Season Premiere)

9p.m. "The Unit" (2nd Season Premiere)

10 p.m. "Smith" (Series Premiere)

Wednesday, Sept. 20

8p.m. "Jericho" (Series Premiere)

9p.m. "Criminal Minds" (2nd Season Premiere)

10p.m. "CSI: NY" (3rd Season Premiere)

Thursday, Sept. 21

8p.m. "Survivor: Cook Islands"

9p.m. "CSI" (7th Season Premiere)

10p.m. "Shark" (Series Premiere)

Friday, Sept. 22

8p.m. "Ghost Whisperer" (2nd Season Premiere)

9p.m. "Close to Home" (2nd Season Premiere)

10 p.m. "48 Hours Mystery" (Season Premiere)

Sunday, Sept. 24

7p.m. "60 Minutes" (39th Season Premiere)

Not being a smart butt hear but are any of these shows good? My NBC has not gone hd yet so i don't watch them. They will with in a month so its time to look and see if and shows are good.

I have seen previews of "Kidnapped" and I may give it a look. I think that NBC will have their usual panic attack and yank it after a couple of weeks though.

I watch Medium, Earl, Leno and ER occasionally ( they lost me for awhile this season, but the season ender rocked...)
I also watch Medium, but I don't see it listed for this year, it was on Mondays at 9.
Any word on it ?

I also watch Leno nightly, in HD of course.

I can honestly say that NBC will retain their 4th place finish with this lineup...

Well the way they keep promoing their shows, they might be 1 or 2 in the first couple weeks.

I think they'll win Sunday nights with the NFL

I've watched Crossing Jordan a few times and found I liked that. I may give it a chance this year depending what it is opposite.

I don't know what a couple of those shows are yet. The Law and Orders I am pretty tired of but the other half is addicted to them.

CBS Television & TiVo Make History With First-Ever Exclusive Debut of New Fall Show on TiVo Before Its Network Premiere

TiVo Subscribers to be First in Nation to Record New CBS Fall Show 'The
Class' Up to a Week Before Its Premiere & Receive Special Sneak Previews of
Highly Anticipated New Shows 'Jericho,' 'Smith' and 'Shark'

ALVISO, Calif. and NEW YORK, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CBS
Television today announced plans to make TV history by partnering with TiVo
Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO), the creator of and the leader in television services
for digital video recorders (DVR), to launch a new Fall show in an entirely
original way -- not via a network premiere, a DVD or the Internet, but on
the TiVo(R) service, which continues to revolutionize how America watches
television. Through this pioneering partnership, TiVo subscribers will be
the first in the nation to see the hot comedy CBS show "The Class" as early
as a full week before its premiere on live TV.

In this innovative launch developed jointly by TiVo and CBS, TiVo
subscribers will have an unparalleled opportunity to experience CBS fall
line-up exclusives. In addition to the opportunity to watch The Class up to
1 week before its network premiere on September 18th, TiVo subscribers will
be able to view sneak preview clips and receive exclusive footage and
information on three more of CBS's most eagerly anticipated new shows:
Jericho starring Skeet Ulrich and Gerald McRaney, Smith starring Ray Liotta
and Virginia Madsen, and Shark starring James Woods and Jeri Ryan. With
just one click of the remote, TiVo subscribers will be able to record the
premieres of all four shows. This will mark the first time that any group
of network shows have ever been bundled together and offered jointly for
the ultimate in viewer convenience. Following the premieres, subscribers
can utilize the popular Season Pass(TM) recordings feature which once set,
automatically records all shows viewers choose for an entire season without
them ever having to give a second thought to when they air.

Tom Rogers, TiVo's CEO said, "We're thrilled to be able to introduce
this ground-breaking innovation to the industry while at the same time
providing our subscribers with exclusives that no else can match. At the
core of this fresh and forward-thinking campaign is the television
industry's recognition of the tremendous influence that our 4.4 million
TiVo subscribers can generate as some of the smartest and savviest TV
viewers around."

"CBS's partnership with TiVo is a creative new way to use DVR
technology to help drive television network viewing," said George
Schweitzer, President of CBS Marketing Group. "Our goal is to introduce our
fresh new comedy The Class about a group of 20-somethings who met in the
3rd grade and whose lives become bound together to a broad, diversified,
receptive audience that has the ability to start trends and generate buzz,
which is exactly what TiVo offers."

This dynamic new partnership between TiVo and CBS was developed in
conjunction with Initiative Media as part of a broad agency-wide
relationship with the InterPublic Group of Companies launched in April
2006.

NBC unveiled its midseason scheduling strategy Wednesday, including a entirely new lineup for Sunday night.
With its top-rated "Sunday Night Football" departing in January, NBC needs to find a new Sunday lineup that won't result in steep viewership drains. Season to date, the network has been on a roll, up double digits versus last year, but the gains have been largely due to Sunday night.

To fill out the night, NBC will run its stalwart newsmagazine "Dateline" in the 7 p.m. hour, followed by its new talent search reality series "Grease: You're the One That I Want," then the return of "The Apprentice" and "Crossing Jordan."
