I purchased a new Openbox X3 HD Satellite Receiver in June and as far as moving my Dish and scanning in about 10 Satellites it has worked well. My question is the X3's instruction Manual isn't much help re how to play Video files from a 2 TB Seagate External Hard Drive I got with some Movie Files for Xmas. I don't want to destroy my upgraded files which were done from a flash drive plugged into the USB Port on the front of the X3. Does anyone know if I can just plug in my Seagate External Hard Drive into the X3's USB Port then select Video Files to Play on the X3 without causing a problem with my software Upgraded Files? Is there a special set of steps I need to go thru? Any replies would be very much appreciated.

It probably depends on what format and resolution your movie files are in.
Not having an X3, I couldn't guess what it might or might not support.

There is another potential problem that might bite you.
This happened to me...
When I set up a 2tb external on my Vista system, the XP boxes couldn't read it.
(1tb drives are fine)
I had to reinitialize the drive on the XP system, then have the Vista computer write the files.
Then of course, the XP system read 'em fine.
So, it is *possible* your X3 may not see anything on your 2tb drive.

To break your problem down into little steps...
- write a few files on a smaller hard or flash drive and try them
- get a free program called MediaInfo, which will examine all your video files
. (if you have problems, be prepared to describe the specs of your files)
- if all goes well, try the 2tb drive with your video

whenever I encounter video problems with mp4 in my FTA box ( not X3), i convert the file to mkv just by ripping the raw audio and video and then muxing back in to MKV.

Tools are YAMB ( extracting in to raw format)
MeGUI_2153_x86 for converting in to MKV, also subtitles can be added if you have any

it hardly takes 10 min/file.
