NEVER Do This With an Antenna, It Can Kill You!

I have old videos in my archives of people installing CB Radio antennas and having this happen to them. Most from the late 1970's to the early 1980's. Also stories with Dish and Directv. Also, people falling off the roof. I would leave it to a pro. I also cringe when they show this in an OTA Antenna Infomercial.

I drilled water wells in Florida in the 80's to mid 90's.
We drilled a series of irrigation wells in the median of a boulevard around 100 yards from the Crystal River power generation station HV feed cables/structures. 500 kV if I remember. On the catwalks and welding casing and such. All was good.
After tearing down the rig and bringing in the pump rig to install the 5HP submersibles hung on 2" galvanized.
I'd get a zap. Maybe more like a tingle with authority. When guiding the pump in the well and screwing together the galvanized. It was enough go give a pretty good tingle.
I measured 87 VAC from the casing to the hanging pipe. 87 volts! 100 yards, maybe more from the transmission line. The pump rig boom was up in the air around 40 feet.
We used a welded bolt on the casing and jumper cables to connect to the rig and ground it after that.
