Optoma's new HD70 projector, a 720p DLP projector, is due to be released the end of this month for $999. There's a link at Visual Apex with the specs. I can't wait for reviews for this baby.

Do you know what the main feature differences are between the H70 vs the H72? The H72 is running $1600 SHIPPED and comes with extended warranty and extra lamp. OR $1700 adding 100" electric screen.

I don't know the differences. The problem with the HD72 for me is the offset is too big for my low ceiling. Did you look at the specs at Visualapex.com?

Yep; with these diffs; seems a lot like the Optoma HD7100 in the updated case. I have a buddy looking and he does so more with his wallet. He has been leaning toward the award winning PLV-Z's but has a cost issue. $1500 with screen and extra lamp and S/H is tough to beat for a leading product, but that H70 might do it depending on S/H and screen costs.

ANSI: 1000
CONT: 4000:1
RES: 1280x720

H72
ANSI: 1300
CONT: 5000:1
RES: 1280x768

Could you get another ceiling mount with a longer down-rod?

I don't need a longer downrod, that would bring the image even lower. Your friend can save a lot of money by building or painting his own screen for $50 or less. That's what I did.
