Hi guys hows it going. I just found this forum and it caught my interest. I just got a job at directv as a entertainment consultant(aka phone monkey :D) and have to say they treeat thier employees very well. Been taking calls for directv for awhile at a company they hired to do thier tech support and just recently got transitioned to them.

Do you know any way for a new customer to get the HDTV box for free or at a discount when compared to the 299 fee they want you to pay?

Welcome aboard here at SatelliteGuys! It will be nice to have another insider with with D*. I have been thinking about trying to get on with them in Colorado myself, very few jobs at corporate though.

I would have to say they treat their customer pretty well too, that has been the "guiding light" that has made a me a 7 year customer.

Welcome to the greatest satellite forum on the Internet!!

Compared to DISH, Voom, and my local cable company, Directv treats customers like royalty. I haven't been with Directv long (5 months now) but they have bent over backwards for me.

Thx for the welcome, and here is a tip tor any DTV cust.
--get the protection plan!--

trust me its worth it :)

New meat for the DTV grinder :)

Hi there kageyfna, I'm a DTV employee as well. I actually just found this site today when one of our customers pointed it out to me.
I've been with DTV for a few years now... and I have to say that we do both our customers and our employees well. Even for the TSR's in Pro Plan LOL.
By saying that the Pro Plan is worth it.... that's not an understatement.
But the real secret to getting IRD's ( please excuse the abbreviation, at DTV they are considered Individual Receiving Devices, or receivers. ) at lower than normal cost..... The ever so popular " I'm a great customer " deal. Seriously, we ( and I include myself because I am a Resolution Specialist ) will bend over backward to keep someone that has had DTV... say for more than 2 years.... and has a good payment history. We make exceptions for the newer customers as well... isn't that right Mr Neutron? But stay as a cust for a while... show us that we have an investment return... and we'll treat you likewise.

Are you the one I told about the website? I called earlier asking about the 6 months HD pak free deal and the manager I spoke to I asked for him to come to this site to verify what I was saying.

Anyway, how did you know about my great deal? :)

I plan on being a D* customer for a long time to come. Your programming prices can't be beat and I can take D* with me when we decide to move back to Texas.

Two posts ago prooves the point that you are not really getting a "deal" on anything, but you have already paid for it through long term service charges. They will be willing to waive a few hundred dollars, why not, if you have been with them for over 2 years you have most likley already dropped a grand on them!!

It certainly is a service industry, they are more than willing to provide a vehicle for you to rack up charges if you continue to throw money at them!

What is the protection plan? Like protection on the equipment or something? What does it cost, and why should i have it? I feel like i am on the outside here.................

It's $7.99 a month and is supposed to cover your equipment. Once we get on the HD pak deal I may get it. Since we have the TC Premier package we are already over $100 a month and I would hate to add more on our bill as it is so I don't know just yet.

Directvrep, I bet if Directv had a deal like DISH does (not that I'm wanting you guys to stoop that low) on the HD receiver I bet you guys would have a bunch more people deflect from DISH over to Directv. I have heard more times than not that the reason people who have DISH HD won't switch over is because of the equipment cost. Again, not trying to compare the two. I have recommended you guys a lot to people. There are at least 3 at work who will be switching when their commitments are up from DISH to you guys.

Service industry? try Trusting industry.

It's not that we have set requirements of 2 years minimum before we sink money into you... ask Mr Neutron what we did for him... and he's been a cust for 5 months? We look for people that we feel deserve and will be loyal to us for the things we do. Truth be told, we could be really bitchy and charge $99 access card replacement fees 2 times per year and change the price and amount of service WITHOUT prior notification and be within the law... you would have no way out due to the DTV customer agreement. We chose not to do this because our customers are loyal to us as we are to them. If you show us or appeal to us for an exception, regardless of the past ( unless you have broken a previous promise to us ) then chances are more likely than not.... you'll get it.

Anything else?

5.99/month if you dont have dvr or hi-def :)

The prot plan will cover any out of warranty equipment replacements, remotes or access cards. also any services calls(normally 70 bucks).

I didn't know that they had a different tier for HD and DVR boxes. Interesting....
