Got some new neighbors the other week and they have a nice 55 or so inch tv in their living room which faces the bay window out to the street.

I am sure by title and first sentence you see where I am going...

Anyways, they seem to watch ALOT of adult movies and today I noticed that neighborhood kids were hanging out on the sidewalk watching from the street. Adult movies have their place and don't get me wrong, I enjoy them myself. I went out and told the kids (all like ages 7-13) to break it up and go home and went to the house to let them know that everything they were watching was easily viewable from the street.

No one ever answered but the tv got turned off. I left a note on the door just as an FYI, but later another movie was back on, curtains wide open and the note was gone.

Is there any recourse for this? I don't want to have to look out my window and see it or have a bunch of kids hanging out watching it. Anyone ever run into this?

Hmm, what's worse, someone who watches porn in the privacy of their own home, or someone who peeps into their windows to watch said porn?...seems the parents of said kids need to supervise more and others need to stick their nose in other peoples business less.

Buy some curtains, and mind your business, you peeping tom. ;)

Seriously, it's right across the street from my house and if I look out my window I am straight across from their house, kind of hard to miss.

Our street is major walkway for kids from the elementary and middle school 2 blocks away, so that is why all the kids started congregating.

Btw, on my note all I said was "Everything you are watching on TV is being watched by a bunch of kids on the street, I am not calling the police, I just wanted to let you know".

damaged, I don't know how to take your response as joking somewhat or seriously telling me to mind my own business and stop looking out my windows. Why should I be a shut in? Are you saying I can't go out and enjoy my front lawn cause my neighbors are watching porn? What about when my kids ask "Daddy, what's on that TV?"

Simply avert your eyes, I've walked by peoples' homes windows before, and unless I hear 'rape, murder, call 911', or something similar, I do not look at, or into their windows and or doors, as I would hope they do for me, it's really that simple, however, if you asked nicely, I would think the right thing to do would be to close their blinds, but I do not think they are legally bound to, you could tell the kids parents, as that is the proper authority in that scenario.

Hope it gets worked out anyhow.

Well, as I typed my response, a township police car pulled up and took photos of the porn on the TV visiable from the street. I'm heading out to ask him what's up.

No I was not the one who called the police. I didn't think it was a police matter.

damaged, unless you know the layout of my house, please don't make accusations.

As for if they think I called the cops, they can ask the cop and the cop will tell them. There is a big congregation of parents out there now. This does not look good.

SatinKzo, unless you want people to comment [be it accusations or not], don't post things to PUBLIC forums.

Seriously, what is your problem with me? I asked a simple question and you immediately accuse me of a being a nosy peeping tom.

I don't think we've every crossed paths and I guess I will never have that luxury again.

There are some seriously pissed off people out there right now, yelling and arguing. This is why I did not call the police and just left a note, but I notice that some of the parents are those of the kids that were out there earlier. Someone talked at home and got someone worked up

In order for you to see the porn, you had to look into their window, that makes you a peeping tom in my book, and in my book a porn lover is a might better than a peeping tom.

Maybe it will be a Flash Crowd: someone texts their friend to check out the free pron from the street, and they text two of their friends, and so on... Next thing you know, here come the Newschoppers and ENG trucks, and your neighborhood leads off the 11:00 news... :)

So are you trying to incite me into a flame war or something?

You don't get to me so I guess if you feel better about trying to get me mad, have at it. No big deal.

Man, I don't know what the heck is going on outside, but another cop car just pulled up ( I assume to just watch the crowd of 20 or so parents outside) and the female owner is in handcuffs in the first cop car.

Satin you live in an exciting place!! Those people should have been arrested for being stupid. Unfortunately there's no law against that. But most states have laws against promoting pornography, or 'showing' it to minors. I think the police will handle it now, esp since they got proof lol. Hope it gets on the news, like to hear the outcome of that one!!

Thing is, this is a VERY boring neighborhood. I feel like it's a borderline retirement niehgborhood. Most people are old as heck.

I feel like an on the spot reporter, but anyways

The female is out of the car and yelling at the crowd. and the guy is now in the car, but he did not have hand cuffs.

Let me also add that I met these people the day they moved in. Recent college grads, newlyweds. Seemed like and I assume are VERY nice people. Both drive nice cars (Audi and BMW). Put a bunch into landscaping in the last week. Something else has to be going on for this to be going so long.

Now I think about it I wonder if this will turn out like those court cases of people watching porn in their vehicles. There were a couple times I know people got brought up on charges, but I don't know how it turned out. I think one was even in Michigan (my state).

sadly my neighborhood (more so just one neighbor) is the walking Maury show

6 kids...5 different dads...and the only ones that have the same dad are the twins

laff, yeah, I did finally go out and ask what is up to the few people left out there.

here is what happened from what I could gather.

A parent walking their child home from school saw it and went to the door to (as I did) just let the people know that it was viewable from the street and if they would please pull the curtains when they watch.

Male homeowner told the women and child to "Get the F-off my property"

Women got home, made dinner and apparently was so pissed, called the police after dinner.

Cops show up and take picture evidence as apparently under some michigan laws it is illegal to have porn on your private property be viewable from public places. Now if it was only viewable from on the homeowners property, then it is fine.

Crowd gathered as apparently other homeowners had made similar requests to the couple across the street, but no one called the cops.

No idea why the woman was put in the cop car in cuffs, no one in the crowd did either other than she kind of pushed the police officer, but it looked accidental to some of the people in the crowd.

After I talked to a couple people in the crowd, the officer approached and asked "who's note is this", The note being the one I left earlier today. He said he was taking it along with peoples statements that they left notes also as evidence.

He explained the whole public vs private viewing areas and said the couple was issued a "non-binding" citation of "public performance of pornography and contributing to the delinquency of minors". The reason he stated was that there were enough person to person complaints to the couple (which they acknowledged receiving and disregarding) that kids were watching the porn from the street.

He explained that the non-binding citation is not a fine or a criminal act YET. It is just a warning that IF they get any more complaints on the same issue, it will be come a criminal act with fines and such.

He said he explained it all to the couple and of course they completely apologized to him and I guess apologized to the few left in the crowd for not answering their door when people left notes. They were embarrassed. They promised to close their curtains from now on. he said he responded "Wouldn't it have been easier just talk to your neighbors instead of ignoring them"

Wow, there is going to be some bad blood I think for a bit.
