I posted a want ad for Primestars locally and someone called me about a dish they had in their shed. Basically just the reflector they said, but it was 48" x 54".

Since it was a beautiful day out here on Sunday I decided to drive over and see him and pick up the dish. He uses a Primestar and some 18" dishes to provide wifi for his neighbors. They're in a valley with no cable/DSL coverage and limited LOS to a local wifi service tower. I also told him about real FTA a bit and he thought it sounded interesting.

Anyway, I rescued the dish. I couldn't find the mold stamp right away as it is dirty, but I saw it this morning when I was (finally) taking some pictures.

It says "Northern Satellite Corp." and "Model: NSC12-1" on it. A search shows me that 1captain was talking about his! Dang his pictures are *shiny* compared to mine. :(

I don't have any of the mount or LNBF bracket hardware, so I will have to ask 1captain to give me some specs/measurements from his once I start working on this thing.

I hope to put a C/Ku LNBF on here and pickup at least a few strong C-Band signals if I can! :) Yeah, it is too small for real C-Band stuff, but maybe small enough I can hide it from the neighbor's better. ;)

Pictures will tell the tale best.

I've got quite a few pictures of what I thought were Channel Master 1.2m dishes.
But, some have a square grid waffle pattern on the back, some have radial molding (maybe Prodelin?), and PopCornNmore has a 1.2m with that diamond pattern.
Maybe get with him and see how similar they are?

I wonder if Channel Master molded this dish custom and put their name on it?
Or possibly, this construction technique isn't so difficult...?

I bet its a cm-made dish, looks just like the back of these 1m primestars I have. But I dont see any feedhorn support attachments...hmmmmmm thats a puzzle.

That dish has ribs in the center that are shaped like the Superman logo :) Looks almost like a Channel Master, but different design. Also notice that it does not have the holes in the front of the reflector for the feed supports.

Nice grab, gillham!
That looks like one we had at the radio station years ago and yes it was a Channel Master. We used it to receive a side feed from CBS that contained our affiliate PSA and national spots from CBS. A MINI BUD so to speak! Never had any problems with it for over 8 years. I remember the engineer found that one someplace and used it standalone just for the national spot feeds we were required to play on air so the big dish for Westwood One Hot Country was straight into the production room. Had it hooked into our old Starguide 1 before the new move to SES Americom's AMC-8 Satellite located at 139° W.

Yeah, it is too small for real C-Band stuff, but maybe small enough I can hide it from the neighbor's better.

We Did! Worked Fine On The CBS Satellite! Remeber the dish would bring in strong numbers on the Westwood One bird and NEVER had any problems with snow in the winter time like the 12 footers we had on the roof!

Anyways,
Great find, be looking forward in the progress as you go getting this one going again! I remember ours was kind of heavy but it was complete and not just the reflector! :up

Nice dish Gillham, you will find out that plays real good, will run with the 1.2m CM, or perform a little bit better not by much but it does when you start you're fine tuning. Have the same dish here that I fab on a old horizon motor mount. an they are old about the 1st time I have seen these models was early to mid 80's.

now on the feed legs that dish took 3-legs to a aluminum block, an the legs bolted to the to the dish 1 at bottom, 2 on the side, (should see 1/4" holess on the edges of the dish) an they where made out of metal pipe about 3/4" diameter. so they should be able to be made fairly easy, I can give you how long that they need to be, an also F/L. also the Channel Master feed support, (black plastic) will also work on that dish tried 1 but went back to its metal 1 gave me more adjustment.

will give you what I found on setting mine up here, used a laser pointer, dewalt zip tied to the end of a Channel Master ku feed, an if you will draw a line across in a X patern from its 4 mounting locations of where the mount gos that is where my laser shot to.

Great info guys. I hope to get a mount rigged up over the next few weeks. Then some tubing to make an LNB feed support. Of course the house has a few projects that need doing first, so we'll see what gets done. :)
