All,

I just bought my new Starchoice DVR530 HD a few days ago. I must say it is a nice change to own both a DVR and one that records HD to boot.

Out of the box it functions as advertised and bug free. Setting up recordings is very easy and the user adjustable, jump back or forward feature is nice as I set my ahead button for 120 sec. to leap through commercials.

No named based recording but I guess that can always be added at a later date through software. Better to release a product to market stable, Echostar are you listening, and add features later than to release a feature rich bug ridden product.

Very happy with my purchase.

Here are some images I took quickly:

Image #1: DVR 530 HD with nicer HD blue LED, the LED bars cascade during recording, a very nice touch.

Image #2: Set recording using the guide for CSI showing a black target indicating a pending recording, it will turn red while recording.

Image #3: DVR List of already recorded programs. Notice the black hand which indicates a recording I have protected.

Image #4: Pending recordings.

Image #5: Live TV paused with icon.

Image #6: DVR options. Live buffer on/off option. Also, you can customize the length of time for your skip forward and back.

How does the SD channels look?

I notice that switching from my DCT2500 (SD Digital Cable) to a DCT6208 (HD DVR Digital Cable), the SD channels gained alot of digital noise, as its analog, and SD Digital sampling was not all that great. Of course, the HD channels look perfect.

ultatryon,

SD looks even better on the DVR530 than on my DSR500. I am using a DVI to HDMI cable on my Panasonic DLP. No excessive digital noise whatsoever.

I will up a SD picture when I get home this evening from work.

Nice Pictures, just picked mine up today. Really easy to install even if you have too run another cable from dish to tuner 2. Watching HD will never be the same. The sd channels always look good on the DSR-500, look a little better on the DSR-530, most likely because of use of DVI cable. Here are some pic's.

Jast an FYI,

The initial shippments indicate the model as DSR530 on the box. The actual model is DVR530 to indicate that it is indeed a DVR.

Future shippments will have the newer boxes with the name change.

I must say I love this box alot !!! I am awaiting what Starchoice does with their channel line up n regards to HD now that the CRTC has ruled for them to stop the omnibus HD channels.

no Chroma Bug on SD?

Can someone tell me if this new reciever has the chroma bug on SD signals or not?
