I have a 10 ' mesh dish, openbox receiver and an 18 year old Proscan TV.
Everything is working pretty much ok. Of course the connections from the
Openbox to the tv use the connections from 18 years ago.
Question is, how do I connect the Openbox to a new TV?
I have a new 17" Proscan that is connected with a black, white and red
connection to a fiber Optic system. Can't understand how that would
work with the Bud. No panic it hasn't happened yet.....
When I originally set up this dish I used cable from the openbox to a tv
outside by the dish. This was the only way I had of getting on the arc.
Again I would not be able to do this with the new tv connections.
Surely some of you have also had this opportunity.

Do away with the red/black/white cable and get an HDMI cable.
Run between the S9 HDMI out and the televisions HDMI input.
Go into the TV settings in the S9 and change to 1080 (P or I, I can't remember which it has or if it's got both)
For your hearing assistance device. Connect it's inputs to the red and white audio out on the television.
Hope it's got them, otherwise directly to the red and white on the S9, but then that device will only work on satellite channels and not other channels the TV tunes to.

Thank you Fat Air for responding.
I found the HDMI connection on the back of the S9 HD PVR Openbox.
I looked on the back of a new Proscan TV and found the HDMI connection.
I presume any new tv I buy will have an HDMI port.
They both look the same. Almost like a USB connection.
Then I went online and looked up HDMI cables. This is where I got lost.
There are a dozen different kinds and lots of upgrades.
So which one to choose and about a 4 Ft cable should do the trick?
Am I correct is saying that both ends of the cable should be the same?
What would you recommend?

Hi Fat Air,
I tried to send 2 private messages. Have no idea if you got them.
I never use the facility so I don't know what I am doing.
I might be able to dig up an old email address from years ago
if you have the same one.
Many Thanks

HDMI cables are available locally at Dollarama (and probably Dollar) stores for $2 and $3 each depending on length. This is new product. Look for similar thrift stores in your area that carry inexpensive odds and ends mostly imported from China.

Hi Cyberham,
Thanks for the suggestion.
Probably easier than bothering Fat Air.

It's a tossup whether I like Fat Air's puddy or yours.
Can't figure out how you got your puddy to sit still with those glasses
on him.
Of course yours has to be COOLER than Fat Airs.
Glasses and all :)

The Dollar stores here haven't had HDMI cables. Although I keep looking. Plenty of USB led lamps and cigarette lighter/USB adapters tho.
It's on its way via snail mail.
tried to get my glasses back, and he would have nothing to do with that.
Can relate.

Got the cable and installed it on a Proscan TV for testing.
More questions as I am still in the heavy learning process, not complaining.
I could see no difference from the old red, black and white cable.
I realize this is new tech and I should be thinking this way.
The TV is connected to a fiber optics system.
Are there HDMI cables made specifically for Fiber Optics???
Is the gold and silver connections nonsense???
Do all cables have the same speed capability???? 1080 for instance.

Maybe a fiber optic signal can not be read by a TV and a copper HDMI connection is needed?
Thanks for any insight.

Had a terrible moment of weakness today and replaced my 18 year old
Proscan tv with a 39" Toshiba led 1080p 120hz.
Had all kinds of fun hooking it up to my OpenBox S9. I have sound to
the TV and my TVEARS. Used my new HDMI cable and it worked great.
My main problems were finding out how to get the signal from the BUD.
Didn't know which hdmi on the Tv to connect to but I guess it doesn't
make any difference.

Oh yes, dish won't move. Have to figure out how to wire the Uniden pusher
to the Toshiba tv. No bar on screen showing click counts.
What's needed is one of you guys moving to Florida to help guys like me:)

I can now move the dish but have about 90 to 100% snow on the screen.
I have attached a picture of the back of the Openbox, UnidenSQ530
and the Toshiba 39" tv.
To get the dish to move I attached a wire from the Uniden at BP12 to
the TV at ant/cable.
To get the click count on the screen I attached a wire from the Openbox
at "y" to the Tv at "Y/video". This does not work and I get a screen so
full of snow that I can not read it.

Now you will say you are not getting any signal from the dish. But that
is wrong because when I 1st turned on with the new TV, the dish was
setting at 58 on Araing and the signal was clear. It's when I started
moving the dish that I lost everything.

File Management is not working for me so will try to figure out a way to upload them.

Isn't the televisions "F" input (ANT) used for cable or local OTA antenna?
If answer is NO, skip to paragraph below.
Does the new TV have a yellow video input jack?
If so, wire the yellow video out of the Uniden( BP 11) to it.
Watch the uniden counter on Video, satellite on HDMI. Cable/OTA via tuner on coax input.

You're a good candidate to get the Titanium Satellite ASC1 mover(with polarity control for servos) Control it all with the S9 remote!
Talk is it may/will be available next month.

Thank you for responding Fat Air.
There is no "F" input as far as I can see only a screw on connection
called " ant/cable" on the tv.
The colors on the push in type jacks on the TV are green, red, white
and blue. No Yellow. The BP-11 out of the Uniden is a push on type
connector. The connection I have used so far on the Uniden are both
screw on connectors that seem to move the dish ok.
The connection from the Openbox to the TV must be the culprit.
I'm getting very heavy snow no matter where I connect the wire
coming from the Openbox. Maybe where I am connecting the wire
on the Openbox is the culprit. It is the located where the 6 slots
with a line around them at the top right called "Y". I thought this
was where I had it before but might be mistaken.
Anyway I'm dead in my tracks

Most Toshibas use the input as dual purpose and you have to select Composite or Component input mode in the TV menu.

In Composite mode Green is Composite Video or Y.

That screw connection is an F connector. Satellite and OTA use same style connectors.

On the back of the TV you should have Green, Red, Blue and Red, White as a single Input. The green, red & blue are component video input and the Red & White is audio input. You're used to seeing Yellow, Red & White - where Yellow is Composite Video and Red & White are audio.
