After reading quite a bit on this forum I bought a traxis 3500, winegard 76, a .4db universal lnb and sg2100 motor on ebay. I followed the instructions to set my elevation and aimed for south. After checking the info screen I am getting 38% intensity and 11% quality. I've moved the dish a fair amount in all directions and waited a few seconds, but am still getting between 36 and 38%. My zip is 04064. Should I be trying to lock on to Nahuel 1 or AMC6 as my due south? What channel should I enter as a live TP? I'm finding the traxis menus more confusing than I expected and am discouraged by my initial results.

WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum

I would use AMC-6, but if you use USALS any satellite close to the top of your arc will work.

It may be an idea to remove the motor and find AMC-6 first!

I found GBN and auto scanned a few other stations/feeds on amc6. I'm getting high 70's for strength and quallity. This was during and after 3 inches of rain. I'm now stuck trying to operate the motor via the reciever. The button on the motor moves the motor. When I program a satellite to use usals it says its moving and then I ask it to autoscan that sat it picks up the same stations on amc6. I assume it didn't move. What is the procedure for programming the receiver to move the motor to different satellites? Unfortunately the manuals that came with the motor and receiver aren't much help.

If you are using USALS make sure you have your latitude NORTH and longitude WEST entered for each and every satellite.........

Menu...

Antenna set up.

Come down to positioner, select USALS......... Hit OK

Enter the satellite Longitude

The local Longitude

The local latitude

Exit will save these settings.

Make sure to set up your True South satellite this way FIRST.

I have located and scanned in channels on nahuel 1 and amc6 although blind scanning them programmed what appears to be the same channels. I motored to amc3 and amc5 and scanned channels there as well. So I'm excited with my success so far and starting to feel confident. Of course that's when things start going wrong. Some of the channels that were live last night have no signal this morning. I'm finding that if one of these no signal channels is on amc6 for example and then I try to move back to that sat the screen says to wait while moving and gets stuck in that message. Does that sound normal? When I motor over to IA5 I'm getting nothing at all. Is this the point where I need to fine tune the dish again and what's the best way of doing so that won't mess up the alignment at the top of the arc? When aiming for amc6 I set the motor mount elevation at 46 and then moved the dish elevation up a little from 23 to almost 24. Should I have moved the motor elevation instead and is this what is screwing up my arc?

I really appreciate the help you've given me so far! I'm looking forward to seeing what is on IA5 and eventually G10R.

Most receivers will ALWAYS say "Moving to...." if the channel they are set on is not broadcasting, simply hit EXIT then channel up or down from there.

Usually if the mast/pole is exactly plumb and level (All round) then the motor elevation never needs to be touched!!!

You may have to use DiSEqC 1.2 for satellites at each end of your arc!

Thanks again for your help and advice, Pete.

Hi BKP.

I'm making progress. I found IA5 and G10R and scanned channels on each. Unfortunately we're experiencing higher wind gusts than usual here in southern Maine today, which is messing with reception. My mount pole is less stable than I'd hoped, allowing a small amount of wobble and twist. I'm getting some pixelization during high gusts and losing signal altogether on other channels. I did have to tweak the elevation a hair to get these satellites. I'll tune it a little more in the next few days when the weather has calmed down.

Glad its starting to make sense now!

We're also experiencing higher wind gusts than usual here in MN. but I think that may have been the Chili.

Have fun!
