Nexstar Media Group forces blackout of nearly 5.4 million DISH customers

That still doesn't make the missing channel(s) worth more than the remaining channels. ...
However, if you are missing all of your other Dish channels, then suddenly the locals become worth more. Dish is introducing a Locals Only package for $15 per month, while the exact same channels in an add-on for any other package will remain priced at $12 per month. Still, it would be nice if Dish could get the Nexstar channels back before the Locals Only package launches on 1/14/21.

If Dish offered a $5 discount for the missing channel, shouldn't the remaining channels also be worth $5 each? But that's not what we're paying, is it...

A locals only package doesn't make sense to me with the contract disputes happening every year now.
But just think of how low your Dish bill could be, if Locals Only qualifies for the same discount that Dish is giving other subscribers who complain about the missing channels. If you don't actually care about the particular channel that is in dispute (or if you already receive it OTA, but still need the Locals package for other local channels that you don't get OTA, or just to have more tuners available for recording locals) then this is a win-win.

I think someone is misinterpreting the chart. My reading is that Locals Only (Core) is the addition of locals to your core package.

If locals only was not available last year, how can they advertise it as a $3 increase over last years price?

I am guessing that Locals Only was quietly introduced as a non-advertised package this year (sometime after the 2020 price chart was created) at $12 per month. This would be similar to how Latino Bonus Pack was not available as an add-on for Welcome Pack last year, but Dish quietly added that option later, since it is now available. I may test this theory later this month by calling Dish, and seeing if I can switch to Locals Only. I would do it right away, but I prefer to make core programming package changes at the start of my billing cycle, to avoid partial month charges and credits. That makes it easier to see that I am actually being charged the correct amount when I make the change.

I think someone is misinterpreting the chart. My reading is that Locals Only (Core) is the addition of locals to your core package.
I still think that my interpretation is correct, though. The locals add-on has never been listed that way before, not even the last time the price increased. (In case someone was about to point out that the chart only lists packages that are changing prices, not every available package.) Also, the note at the bottom of the chart still indicates that the (new) core package prices prices do not include the $12 per month locals. This seems like a weird oversight, since that note is directly below the bottom of the chart where the last line says that the new price of the Locals Only (Core) package is $15 per month. So, the reason that locals package is listed that way in the chart (with all of the other core packages, I might add) is because Locals Only is a Core package, and they need to distinguish that from the locals add-on for all other core packages.

Now, someone may ask why the Locals Only (Core) package would cost $3 more than the price of the add-on. Well, keep in mind that the Locals Only (Core) package would still provide access to free preview channels, and also any other "free" channels (such as shopping channels) that are already included in every core package. So, since other core package subscribers are already paying for those channels as part of their package, there is no need to pay for those channels again. So, the locals add-on only includes the locals. However, there is some added value to receiving those "free" channels, and some cost to Dish to carry them (bandwidth, if nothing else). This explains the need to charge a higher price for a "Locals Only" core package that also includes those channels, since those subscribers would not be paying for those channels any other way.

This interpretation does make the naming ironic, since it is the locals add-on that actually only includes the locals, while the "Locals Only" core package is not truly only the locals, but rather as close to that as Dish can actually offer as a core package. This is no different than the irony of the name Welcome Pack, which sounds like an introductory package for new subscribers. However, it is actually not available to new subscribers at sign-up, and instead is only available as a retention package for existing subscribers who are on the way out the door. Similarly, America's Everything Pack does not truly include "everything." What can I say? Dish must love irony.

This is again an issue of I can get it decently OTA, but no programming info, so can't record. I do wish Dish did the antenna thing still. I'd pay for the install to get a close to perfect OTA reception.
Why not try TitanTV com? It's 24/7 coverage for the next 2 weeks, with program descriptions, searches, etc. And you can reconfigure it to put the channels in the order you want. It's free (with ads) over the internet.

Sounds like ever provider will have some problem with locals before too long. Might just be an all out war going on.

Streaming is not a long term viable option with bandwidth caps for households with multiple TVs. The bandwidth cap will chew through.
Some stations choose not to make their signal available online. If you don't have an antenna, or cable/satellite, you're snowed.

This is what I have been doing. There has been several Christmas movies for my wife to watch that are shown as CSI Miami.

Face it...This is the free market, try can do and try anything they want to increase profits..

You dont want regulation you get out of control corporations greedy for more money..

I find it as frustrating, but it goes to a list of things that could be easily fixed.
Try seeing how many TV channels you would receive in a socialist or even communist country then.

Although "most people" (the major population centers) have access to OTA, not everyone actually uses an OTA antenna. For those who do use OTA, Dish's current limit of only two OTA tuners per Hopper is not nearly enough. People need those OTA tuners to record the multitude of OTA subchannels that Dish does not bother to provide as part as the local package. (I know that Dish carries national feeds of many of the diginets, for those who have a high enough basic package. However, there are still some that Dish does not carry at all, and not everyone wants to upgrade to America's Top Infinity :biggrin just to get the ones they do carry.) Then, Dish drops more than two of the major local channels in many markets, and expects two OTA tuners to be enough to record all of the OTA programs we want???

Those particular, if they can afford such, should get a TiVo or Table device, or a couple of each, or both.

I guess your clueless what regulation means?
Im sick and tired of people complaining about price increases and at the same time think things should go down in price....Just because wages dont follow inflation. Then dont complain about unregulated capitalism!
Its that simple

That was the case with me and the roomies; all 4 network timers firing at the same time multiple times every week. But now that I'm going to be living by myself again for the first time in 12 years I think the OTA dongle will be enough for me and if it isn't I'll just have to make a choice on what I really want to record at that particular time.

P.S. crodrules I got an email this morning and certain wireless devices are on their way from a certain Midwestern internet vendor and should be here by Monday ;) ;) ;)

Name one capitalist that believes in “no regulation”. We believe in LOW REGULATION. That’s an obvious difference. Regulation actually drives prices up and possibly contributes to channel disputes. You’re confusing capitalism with anarchy. I am far from an anarchist.
