Nhl center ice -fox dispute?

That is not true for Direct. You are still able to watch your local feed on CI. The only blackout is of the visiting team
It actually is true on DirecTV as well -- it's just different with how the channels are mapped on DirecTV vs Dish. DirecTV authorizes the RSN directly, so if you sub to CI you can watch the game either on the regular RSN channel or on the CI channel. Dish sets up special CI channels and only authorizes CI subscribers to tune in the games on that channel range.

If DirecTV got into a dispute with FOX Sports, you wouldn't be able to watch your local game feed on the CI channel range (76x-whatever).

I would assume that is because the NHL provided feed of fox sports teams are satellite feeds from the arena trucks and do not contain any commercials other then the ones the NHL slips in. When the NHL person at the control board slips you get to hear them doing not for broadcast banter

I see what you are saying. Direct and Dish will both show the Kings on Primeticket (PT) here in LA, and you can also see the PT feed in CI as well in LA. But if PT was removed, then you will not be able to see the PT feed on the RSN or on CI.

Now I'm DEFINITELY not complaining, but I thought with this FOX-Dish dispute the CI fox sports games wouldn't be in HD. I'm watching the PENS-LEAFS on FSN HD through CI now.

fox sports pittsburgh is a FOX sports RSN, why is it exempt from the dispute?
It's FOX in name only, the channel is actually owned by DirecTV.

See: FSN Pittsburgh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:FSN_Pittsburgh_logo.png" class="image" title="FSN Pittsburgh"><img alt="FSN Pittsburgh" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5c/FSN_Pittsburgh_logo.png"@@AMEPARAM@@en/5/5c/FSN_Pittsburgh_logo.png

DirecTV operates the channel and produces the games, but they pay FOX for branding and national "filler" content like the World Poker Tour shows.

I think i'm going to try a 5-day trial of NHL Gamecenter Live online to see what the picture quality is like. I have a dedicated computer (Dell Zino) connected to my home theatre setup and i'm curious how the PQ will be on the big screen compared to the SD crap I have to watch no.

I'm trying whatever I can to avoid jumping sh*t to DirecTv.

As a huge hockey fan, the best things I ever did were:

1) Switching to DirecTV
2) Signing up for Shaw Direct

There hasn't been a game that I haven't been able to get in HD yet this year, although the season is still young.

My Shaw Direct Centre Ice subscription comes with a free companion subscription to GameCenter Live -- it really starts to block up during panning shots. Unfortunately if the teams are playing a decent game, that's pretty much all the coverage consists of is panning shots.

What's your download speed?

Bummer....thanks.

So Fox pulls my local FSN off of Dish, but I think I can watch them anyway on CI, but they're still blacked out.................wow, it's gettin' harder to be a fan...........

You could "move" somewhere else then watch your local team on CI.

It'll only cost you like $170 , and off course, in glorious SD.

Well, it is not quite that bad! In my case, I will be able to stay on a lower tier (AT 120), so I will able to save $20 per month for 6.5 months. So, with the cost for Center Ice at $170 minus $130 in savings for staying on the lower tier, my net cost would be $40 for the season. In my view, that would be a reasonable compromise, since I would get much more hockey than I have ever had before.

I am enjoying the free preview on Center Ice right now. And yes, if I decide to subscribe, I will have to 'move' to get my local team.

Watching GameCenter Live on my 50" Plasma and they quality is pretty darn good for streaming online. It is MUCH better than the SD feeds I've been watching on Dish.

The only downside is a little stutter during panning, but other than that it kicks ass. If I were watching on a smaller screen I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue.

My Setup:
50" Plasma
Dell Zino connected to TV via HDMI
Hardwired to router with FiOS

I found out that the PS3 app didn't pass certification with Sony. Looks like it will be longer before it is ready. Read that might be mid Nov. That might improve the quality little but I, like you, am ok with watching PC on the 50" in better than SD.

Why bother with Directv if you have Shaw Direct. Can't you get both east and west coast feeds of american network channels, plus if I remember correctly, don't they have a package where you get both NHLCI and NFLST for something like $30 a month?

Why bother with Directv if you have Shaw Direct.
DirecTV has approximately 95% of the games in HD, the exclusion being game feeds from Canada. Shaw Direct or Bell satellite service cover maybe 30-40% of the games in HD, with 100% coverage of Canadian teams in HD.

DirecTV carries something like 35-45 full time HD regional sports networks. (FOX Sports, Comcast SportsNet, MSG, etc), so any Center Ice games from those channels are available in HD.

By contrast, Shaw Direct has 8 HD channels for Center Ice, but 5 of those are remaps of Rogers SportsNet Pacific, West, Ontario, East, and One. So on Shaw Direct you can only get 3 non-Canadian games in HD on any given night. Considering 24 out of the 30 teams in the league are in the US, that really limits the total HD coverage.

With a combination of Shaw and DirecTV you can get nearly 100% of the games in HD. There still hasn't been a game I couldn't get in HD between the 2 services yet this season.

Yes, you get East and West feeds of CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX.

Yeah, but NFL Sunday Ticket uses the same 3 HD channels as Center Ice, so they can only cover 3 games in HD, the rest are in SD.

hehe. Next time I am in your neck of the woods, I will be sure to stop in to get my Sabres HD Fix:D

Hey everyone

I just thought I would mention that I'm a dish network customer and a center Ice subscriber. (I paid the 171 in full before the start of the season)

After complaining about 5 different times to Dish about the lack of HD and lack of feeds/quality in general, I was finally offered a 171.00 credit to my account.

Interestingly most of reps I kept talking to or chatting with online kept telling me that Center Ice is not effected by the dispute which is obviously crap.

Some however did agree with me, so I'm not really sure whats going on on their end but some of their employees are probably misinformed.

In any case, after I got the final dish rep to agree it was due to the dispute, I claimed I was on the brink of just eating my ETF and switching to DirecTV so I could get all this HD (This was actually a complete bluff :p) And she said, blah blah blah I'm sorry you feel that way I can give you a 171.00 credit to your acct. :D

Which for me I think is fair.. They shouldn't charge people for an extremely watered down package. For those of you out there who paid up front like me I highly suggest keeping on their case. Both because you might get the credit, and because it puts pressure on them to come to an agreement.

On a funny side note, last year I was living at an apartment which provided DirecTV and I was able to get the center ice package free then too because of the Versus dispute. Oh carriage disputes....:)
