No 1080P Movie!

1080p is not the spec for the movie, 1080p24 is and the edid info that is passed in the HDMI handshake must specify that your display is 1080p24 compatible. I think the problem some are having is that they don't have 1080p24 support OR the edid info does not properly pass that support in the handshake.

In trying to make sure there were no false positives, Dish has created some false negatives.

Hi, I didn't see anything in the TV's settings to change the screen res. I have the HDMI cable from Sony's store. Should I swap it with another cable I have? What does the 24 mean? Thanks.

I did a tech chat tonight. They took my receiver and projector information. The tech stated that the engineers wanted specifics, manufacture and model #. I was told the report was sent and it would be fixed......:("soon":p

I watched it last night... in 1080p... LOOKED AMAZING! Very very close to the BD one (I own that too). I basically just spent the 3 dollars to check the quality.

I never had a problem ordering the movie... Hope your guys' probs get ironed out.

You all 100% sure that you are using HDMI or a 1080p compatible input?

I too watched it last night and the pq was really awesome, probably the way HD should be! At first I got the screen to rent then it went to the error message that said I waited to long, I then did it again and it went thru with no problem, started watching immediately and the pq was really nice! I too have a ps3 and I'am Legend Blue Ray, I thought the pq was about the same!

I have the same sony it can do 1080P 24f but it is HDMI 1.2 not HDMI 1.3 I wonder if that is the problem since the HDMI out of the VIP622 and 722 are both HDMI 1.3

On my Sony XBR2 the specifications page makes no mention of any rating for the HDMI inputs other than the 1080P 24 bits. How can I find out the HDMI type?

Does this mean Dish expects everyone to buy a brand new expensive TV to utilize their 1080p offerings? If so, they're nuts.

Where can I find the info you quoted? I've only had this set since last year.:(

I just talked to Sony tech support. It seems that my XBR2 is HDMI 1.3, BUT only 60 FPS. I guess that ends the prospect of seeing a movie in 1080p from Dish. Are they nuts???:(

Hmm. L6.12 for the ViP622. Will the 622 and 722 start having different versions all the time, or will they sync up again?

I don't think the version of HDMI (1.2, 1.3, etc) has anything to do with it as all of them can pass 1080p with no problems. You would need ver 1.3 for lossless audio but I don't believe we are getting lossless audio with VOD.

All of these "expect me to buy a new TV" comments are getting rediculous. People, being able to view 1080p24 is just like watching Blu-Ray or HD DVD. If your TV cannot accept the best possible resolution (1080p24), you can still watch the movie you just need to set your player to a different resolution. And in this case, if your TV is not capapable of 1080p24 you get 1080i/720p depending how your 622/722 is set. So if you want 1080p24 then get a new TV. If you just want to watch the movie, go ahead and rent it and watch it in non-1080p24.

That being said, even if your display will accept 1080p24, there is bound to be HDMI handshake issues. There always seems to be handshake issues with some combinations of devices with HDMI. But eventually most of them get worked out.

Q. When was the HDMI Specification released?
The initial HDMI 1.0 specification was released in December 2002.
Version 1.1 was released in May 2004.
Version 1.2 was released in August of 2005.
Version 1.2a was released in December of 2005.
Version 1.3 was released in June of 2006.

This is from the HDMI ORG web site--I got my SONY 40xbr3 on 7/1/06 before 1.3 came out.
