Heard it right from Jim LaChapelle at audience relations with Sportsnet. Are you ready for this, their broadcast agreement with the NHL prohibits them from showing games in HD.

WTF, I thought the NHL wants games shown in HD. This is pathetic, one of the biggest sports channels in Canada, and they can't show HD games.

Just after Sportsnet announced carrying 15 Leaf games this year. I was hoping at least half may have been in HD.

The TSN national feed games should be in HD, that was mentioned in news broadcast I heard, still no definite word about HNIC. Although, even before the season was scrapped, they had talked about the first game being in HD.

We'll see soon enough.

Sportsnet only has rights for regional NHL broadcasts. The Sportsnet HD channel is a national channel - which is why no HD NHL

Time for HDNet on Canadian satellite.
