Ok, few weeks ago we switched back to Directv after being with Dish for almost two years. We got 2 HR24's and 2 other receivers. Originally we couldn't get the MRV working, but thanks to the great people here, I unplugged the ethernet, restarted, and it worked fine. That was fine, until I wanted to watch something on VOD, which wouldn't work. I started reading online, and lots of people say you need a broadband deca. I called tech support, asked them about this and they told me that those receivers have built in decas so you wouldn't need one. After a while on the phone, trying this and that, she said she would schedule a technician to come out and look at it.

Well, he's there now, and I just got off the phone with him. He's saying that it's either/or not both. I asked him about the broadband deca, and he said that wouldn't work, that he was on the phone with advanced tech support and they said it won't work. So now I'm left again with it not working. Any suggestions?

that's what I told them, they kept telling me no. Where can I get one or what's the chances of Directv sending me one if I call and chew them out?

Call a local reseller in your area and see if they have one that they could get to you or install for you.

My local reseller gave me one yesterday, but I have no D* service yet. Looks easy to hook up though.

This whole broadband DECA thing has been a near-epic fail in terms of technician training. The feature works fine (assuming everything is set up correctly) and a non-negligible number of techs are insisting that it doesn't.

Don't settle, it's a training issue. For once I agree with Harsh. It's unbelievable that DirecTV can't get this right. Yes, HR24's have built in DECA. But they won't pass an internet connection through the ethernet port to the other receivers via the DECA cloud. As you found out, plugging in an ethernet cable disables the internal DECA.

You need another DECA adapter or "Broadband Deca" adapter connected with a power supply to your router. It will feed the internet connection to all your receivers.

The CSRs don't know and the installers don't know, even the computer that fills out the work order doesn't recognize what equipment you have and what you need for the install. A total mess. Having said that, I love MRV, it's made watching TV a better experience. Just using Cat-5 cables to a switch until they get their stuff together with Deca/SWM. Not holding my breath though.
