I don't understand why D* = DirecTV or DTV
but
E* = EchoStar = DISH

echostar is the parent company to dish network, they run other satellites then just television (credit cards, and such) also if you had d* and D* it would be hard to tell apart, so the guys have done a great job, by the way !

I have been known to refer to Dish Network as "E-star" to my wife. You should see the look I got...

You mean all this time I've been mispronouncing it as E-asterisk?

Or maybe it should be E-splat.
