OFFICIAL: Dish Network Not Enough New HD Complaint Thread

Dish needs to bring back true HD, the Voom network of channels. Quality is more improtant than quantity. For those worried about their contract penalty for canceling, check out what you will save going somewhere else and you might not care as it will likely be cheaper even with a penalty.

The question I ask myself is, if I did leave Dish, so what more HD is out there? No one else has Voom, and they all have the same channels, like the new ones Dish added, where most of the content I have seen is either 4:3 black side bars or stretched, except for a few like MGMhd. Leaving and paying a penalty for more of the same? Doesn't seem wise to me with over a hundred dollars I would have to pay to end my contract. Besides, I do like the Dish DVR and external hard drive, I don't think Directv has the external hard drive, and aside from Voom, which was a severe disappointment to me, I have been happy with the service. So I am sticking it out a while, especially when they said I will be getting my HD locals soon and also said to watch for more HD in the coming weeks...the big question is...is it going to be true high def. I wish Dish would return Voom I would even pay for an extra package to get it. Maybe that's what they have in mind, kowing people like me would pay for it.

All 11 of your posts have been whining about DISH cutting VOOM.

WE GET IT, K!

The sooner you move on to DirecTV or cable, the better for the rest of us.

But your signature is egging us on. Guess I'll change mine today to say: "Anyone else happy that E* is spending our subscriber dollars wisely and not wasting bandwidth with that silly Speed HD channel?"

I checked prices and it is cheaper elsewhere...

Right now Dishnetworks has 80 HD channels and Directv has 90. I pay $127 a month for the everything package, with locals, with HD, and DVR. I only have to pay $56 for the first three months then $91 at Directv and recieve the same but instead of 280 channels I get 300 at Directv. Directv has DVR's so they are basically the same but it seems to me that Directv is a lot cheaper and since there is no Voom to create a reason to spend more doesn't it make more sense to switch? I think so especially when the do not respect their top paying clients by removing Voom!

You're a legend in your own mind.

BTW, where's your proof that the majority of "top-paying clients" wanted to keep Voom instead of eventually using that space for future HD channels?

As has been pointed-out and backed-up by the numbers, Voom SURE AS HELL wasn't "saving the day" for Dish and keeping subs from bolting to Directv for HD.

Go if you wanna go. Everybody needs to do what they feel is best for them.

I won't go,m they have no external hard drive and I have 3 500gb drives full. I have had good service when I called and other than the Voom letdown, I am happy with Dish.

When we put in sat, I first called DirecTV. They never showed up on install day and then said they couldn't find the order. We re-scheduled, and they called us the day of installation to postpone it for 2 weeks. Then AGAIN they did not show up, but they charged the service to me the first time I ordered. I'm sticking with Dish.

He has a right to sound off..Keep going! That is what this forum is for!

Not everyone, but many of us came to dish for voom. The great HD it had to offer. Right now we feel cheated.

It seems there is actually much less HD content then ever before. I upgraded to the 722 and upgraded my Tvs due to the fact that voom was adding programming.

I also was excited to see dish added HD also available on direc tv. It was a great day until we lost all 15 voom channels.

I dont ''hate'' dish. I hate the fact that they cut valued programming to many people. Whats in its place is a JOKE!

I think it would stink no matter what programming you like!

I agree with the sentiment that losing VOOM certainly makes it feel like we have much less HD than ever before - probably because we do. I also have the Everything pack with the external hard drive loaded with a bunch of HD flicks and commercial free concerts (from VOOM) and pay over $130 a month for the service. If it wasn't for the DVR and the external hard drive, I would be seriously looking at D*. I guess that also means that if D* comes out with a comparable DVR solution, I think there are a large number of subscribers like me that would not see the benefit in paying what we're paying to stick with E*. Especially considering I've always been tempted by the NFL package on D* to begin with. So bottom line, E* lost a differentiator when they killed VOOM and only time will tell if that works out for them.

Just like the old lady in that '80s commercial who used to say, "Where's the beef?"...when I left E* in early March they didn't offer once, single, solitary HD channel, only the HD-Lite variety. Where's the HD E*? Your customers weren't seeing any HD before, and they are now seeing even less (if seeing less than 0% is possible) now that you have violated your affiliate agreement with VOOM HD Networks.

If you want HD...OTA, DirecTV, FiOS, and Cable are better, and cheaper, choices than the DishHD-Lite product!

Voom did not keep Dish from being the HD Leader and Dish was not relying on Voom to "save" it.

Dish started their downward trend in higher churn and fewer new subs by their own behavior in an obvious market.

1. Sports - Dish has been slow to change RSNs to HD and adding in RSNs that are found in large markets. Dish still does not have any channels dedicated to racing. DirecTV recognized that sports fans are also the largest HDTV owner base and adjusted their programming options accordingly.

2. VOD - Dish has given little attention to the VOD market and seems to be abandoning it. DirecTV has a fantastic VOD offering and allows access to missed popular show episodes for download.

3. Highly regarded "cable" channels in HD - Dish had SciFiHD and USAHD channels uplinked for many months but not available even as demand for these channels to go hot (live) reached a point that caused a backlash to begin. Even after "someone" in the company thought the channels were finally available to Dish viewers, he had to be told they were not in fact showing for Dish customers. DirecTV had these channels available before new seasons of favorite programming began for their customers.

4. Dish customer service is often oblivious to what offerings are available to customers in HD, or even what HD really is. In at least one instance a customer was told to use the zoom button to "make" a channel "HD".

The bandwidth Voom occupied did not prevent Dish from doing anything it has done to date concerning the reasons listed above and is still not being used to address any of the true issues facing Dish and their current state of affairs. Dish now offers less HD programming than they have in many years.

Discontinuing Voom might have been a "business" decision but in light of these other problems Dish has failed to address at all or in a timely fashion, that discontinuation has not helped them at all and may not look like a good decision for years to come.

I called for the 4th time to complain to dish this AM..... They still don't get it...All I can get from them is how much better things are now that VOOM is gone... (with the fishin channel in HD and all)....I did get to speak to a so called supervisor but could get now further escalation than that.... I asked several times for escalation...I asked several time to speak to charlie. I have down graded my Dish Package. I am not under contract... I will wait a short amount of time longer before pulling the trigger on Direct TV.... Does anyone out there see a light at the end of the tunnel? (one that is not a train anyway)..... Its about quality not quantity! They market a lot of BS like right now they say they are the leaders in HD and have added 22 new channels? Reality the dropped 15 of the best HD channels on the market, namely Voom HD. What did they replace? well 7 new channels with real winners like the cartoon network and the weather channel. The others are already in SD and not very good channels plus most of the entire 22 are up converted weak and nowhere near VOOM HD quality!

They can add more and more crap and without quality like VOOM HD channels there is no reason to stay with dish as Directv is better and cheaper! Right now Directv has 90 HD and dish 80 at a lot more. I checked my price and I would save over 40% with directv! Why give money to a company that treats is HD customers like crap by dropping VOOM HD and cleary not asking us! We HD VOOM users pay the most per month and what they shape their weak programming around people whom spent 29-39 bucks a month? I pay about $130 a month!

Drop dish!

I type this as I'm bent down on one knee in observance of your holiness

I would give you a math lesson but I think you're too "smart" to handle it.

Oh well, I'll at least make this point: The money that the "beggers and street bums" bring in still outweighs the money that the "royal family members" bring in by a long shot.

Exactly. This is why many casinos have small amounts of floor space for high rollers and tons of floor space for nickel and quarter slots.

I have the AEP + HD and am irked at losing several of the Voom channels too. Granted, most of the channels were not interesting to me but at least there were several I enjoyed. Additionally I cannot get FSN Midwest HD at 61.5; it's now only on 129. Question: Are those figures accurate? Those prices sound too good to be true. How about a link?

Are those figures accurate? Those prices sound too good to be true.
Even as promotional numbers, those figures are not accurate. Further, it would appear that they do not include various fees like the DVR and HD Access fees.

Here's the packages: https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/wizard/buildYourSystem1.jsp

The Choice Extra + HD DVR package goes for 49.99 for a year (assuming that you qualify, not available to existing customers) and normally costs $72.99/month. This gets you 200 SD and 35 HD channels plus locals; considerably less than 300 total channels [package includes 68 XM audio channels].

To get anywhere near 300 english speaking channels (including 68 XM audio channels) from DIRECTV, you need the Premier package plus HD Access and DVR fee. The promotional price is $96.97 and the long-term price (until they raise it next March is $119.97/month. This will fetch you about 72 or so HD channels, a goodly portion of which are RSNs and mirrors of SD channels.
