OLN's first National Hockey League telecast, the Oct. 5 game between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers, will be made available to all cable operators and satellite providers, whether or not they carry OLN, the network said Monday. The move is designed to provide the largest possible audience for the NHL's return after a labor dispute canceled last season. "Opening night is a celebration of the return of these great teams and players to the ice, so we're making it available free of charge to all operators, said Gavin Harvey, president of OLN.

Interesting part for me is in the body of the rest of the story it states that Dolan who is the head of the rangers voted yes on this OLN deal. Why the hell would he do that if he knew that OLN had the right to black out games on his own system. Either he is extramely oblivious and just plain stupid or just really doesn't give a damn about the hockey fans that will miss rangers, islander and devils games this year. I think those three teams are on OLN more than any other. What a coincidence. :)

Rangers fans in the New York area who subscribe to Cablevision might not be in the dark for the Oct. 5 season opener after all.

OLN, the NHL's new cable outlet, could make its coverage of the Rangers-Flyers game available to Cablevision customers who are not currently slated to be able to see the game, two executives familiar with the TV plans said last night.

Cablevision carries its games on a digital sports tier and OLN would like to be on a basic tier, as it is in most of the country.

Local blackout rules will keep the game off Madison Square Garden Network when OLN shows a national game.
