OTA options?

Is there a list anywhere of which OTA antenna upgrades V* authorizes? I currently receive about 1/2 of a channel (occasional reception) but titantv and antennaweb seem to indicate I should get a few more, but some are in different directions. I just want to compare what those websites recommend to what V* might offer to see if it's worth trying for an upgrade.

Thanks

AZBass,

AFAIK voOm decides upgrades on a case by case basis.

If some of your OTAs are in different directions an upgraded antenna may not be what you need, you may just need an antenna rotator to pull in all your OTAs that are within range. How far are you from these stations? How strong of a signal are you getting? What kind of antenna do you have?

I've got the basic winegard, installer said I wouldn't get the OTA's based on my address (on antennaweb most of my stations are red/blue/violet difficulty)
and I've got some 7 miles away @ 172*, 11 miles @ 135*, 23 miles @ 67*, 45 miles @ 144*.

I currently get one station sometimes at night from the 11 mile distance, which is where the installer placed it. No joy at all with any other orientation.

Unfortunately, I don't kjnow the strength of the signal. I did borrow a Terk antenna from a friend and we did get an acceptable daytime signal on the one station I am partially receiving now, but again no other directions. I just don't see bothering V* right now for only improving one channel, but if I could get the majority of the networks, then that would be a phone call to make...

To find out your signal strength on each channel, press the VoOm button, then press the green button twice. That will bring you to the page where you can skip down to "System Status". Push OK, then page down (I think it's two pages). It will tell you your Satellite Signal Quality and your OTA Signal Quality. Good luck! Vicki :)

Although not everyone might want to go down this path, my opinion is if you want solid OTA reception with the least amount of hassle (subjective, I know :) ), take matters into your own hands.

There is a great OTA forum over at the HomeTheaterSpot where a couple of OTA gurus help a lot of people succesfully select the right equipment and get it installed - either by themselves or by finding a OTA specialist in their area.

If you are interested, take a look at http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthreads/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/UBB55 and feel free to ask for help. It's a very friendly place chock full of good info.

Cheers,

Doug

Doug, that's pretty much what I've decided to do at this point. Thanks for the link, I've got it bookmarked. Is your offer to set up a call still open? If it is, please PM me. Thanks! Vicki :) :)
