I tried motoring over to PAS 9 and it gives me an out of range message.
My true south is 123 and my motor should go at least 70 degrees to each side.
PAS 9 is at 58 so there is only a difference of 65 deg.

What is going on?

Thanks in advance for your replies:cool:

Sometimes you have to enter the satellites to the far East and West using 1.2 instead of USALS.

(Of course you also need a Universal LNBF for this satellite, but thats not the above prob.)

I cleared all limits just in case.
I have a universal LNB
I haven't tried using the 1.2 yet, but will try it tonight.
Also, I tried getting Hahuel 1, but it is not on the sats list in my Fortec Lifetime ultra. How do I enter it to get Telesur on 11710? What settings do I need to enter.
The USALS says that it needs to move 200 and something degrees which doesn'e make any sense.

As usual, Ice and PSB thanks a lot.

Nahuel 1 is aimed at Latin America/Argentina so you probably wont be able to get it in BC

Some people have got sparce signals in the Southern US

Thanks Ice and PSB.

One last question:

What is the right sequence for using USALS:

The satellite is entered automatically ( i.e 123 W)
I entered my coordinates. How accurate do they have to be? I used 123 and 49.
I read that Vancouver is actually 123.1 and 49.2
The reason I used 123 is because G10R is exactly 123 and my motor at 0 deg. is aimed directly at it.
Then I click on reference
then on move
and finally on store.
I assume that reference should only be done on your true south sat. Is that right?
Sorry for asking so many things, but the manual doesn't explain any of this.

Thanks.

70 degrees of turn on the motor does not equal 70 degrees of differnce on the satellite arc. The satellite being 65 degrees difference on the satellite arc does not meen the motor has to turn 65 degrees. This is where USALS comes into play. It calculates the amount of turn the motor needs. If 70 degrees of motor turn DID equal 70 degrees of difference on the satellite arc, then you would not have to input your latitude, only longitude.
For three satellite setups on the same longitude, one at the equator, one in the US, and yourself in Vancouver. All three will turn a different amount of degrees on the motor to change from G10R to PAS9. Yes all three are changing the same amount of degrees on the satellite belt, but different amount of degrees on the motor.
To calculate the amount of degrees the motor needs to turn, use the link from this page:
http://www.tele-satellite.com/TELE-satellite-0601/eng/beginner.pdf
to get the program:
http://www.TELE-satellite.com/Uspos.exe

The motor needs to turn 70.4 degrees for your location from 123 to 58

Even if the motor could travel the extra distance that bird is only about 8 degrees in elevation from Vancouver which would make it a really tough go.

Hats off to Larry for the explanation.
It proves once more the value of this forum and how ignorant I am.

Thanks also to sdoradus because I didn't realize it was that low. With the trees we have it would have been impossible anyways.

I tried the program but got a different result from 123 to 58 I got 77.6
Is that correct?
I entered -58 for the new sat and -123, 49 for location.

Thanks,

Try entering like this

2 (change local position)
New Latitude 49
New Longitude -123

1 (change satellite)
(new satellite position) -58

and it gives me
Turn Antenna 70.4 Degrees to the East

You are reversing the latitude and longitude

From one of the numerous satellite calculators,

Victoria 48.42 N Lat
123.37 W Lon
