Is it just me or something terribly wrong with the mix? Motley crue ealier today was un-listenable and now iron maiden is better but still........

I don't know if somethings wrong with Palladia or if its Dishnet's doing. My wife being a motley crue fan even said the audio sounded like crap when the concert aired about a month ago. We then were able to watch the same concert later on HDNET and it sounded fine. If any of you haven't actually seen the Motley Crue concert on Palladia. Don't respond to my thread.:D

Looked & sounded OK

I checked out what they are showing tonight and it look & sounded fine. It wasn't that one concert you were talking about but who knows Palladia may have screwed up when they transferred it into their servers.

I because they put concerts that were not meant to be in 5.1 surround sound. What concert have you ever gone to that was in 5.1?

Thats probally the case. But, maybe palladia tries to compensate and in return just butchers the mix. My sub also wasn't producing the correct bass notes during the maiden show when it should have been.:D

Pink Floyd's "Learning to Fly" tour was in some sort of surround sound format from what I can remember back in the 80's.

The biggest problem I heard with the concert was Vince Neil's singing. I love the Crue, but he sounded like he was mumbling most of the words. You would think since the concert was being recorded he would try to perform better than he was.

All the tours

Actually Pink Floyd had a 4 channel surround set up for all the tours they did starting around 75 they carried the quad sound system. There were really 2 systems. They would have one at one venue while the second was being set up at the next event. When not on tour the systems were leased out. Along with the amazing light system. A bit of Rock history and the fact I used to be a touring sound engineer.

Uh, a live concert is a recording of what it is like in the arena or theater.

Two (or three) channels only gives you the band, the rear channels are supposed to give you the sound of the hall and the audience.

About the best surround recording of a concert that I've heard are the live segments of the movie Buena Vista Social Club. The rear stereo surround channels are expertly used to subtlely provide the sound of the audience and the reverberation off the back and side walls.
