Hello All.
Need some info on what kind of dish everyone is getting in the Pitts. Pa. area. I'm going from a 942 receiver with 2 dishs, one pointed at sat.65 and the other pointed at 110 and 119. too a VIP 622 receiver to hopefully one dish pointed at 110,119,118,5 and 129. I presently have the works in programing including VOOM and the Mpeg2 HD channels. My question is what kind of dish do the rest of you folks are getting installed to see all of the Sats. that I'll need to get my locals in HD and the rest of the HD content. I am also using a OTA to get my Digital locals but some of the locals have a little trouble getting through. Channel 13.1 and 13.2, they seem to drop in and out alot.
Thanks in advance for any help.:D

Is there particular programming that is available only on the 129 satellite that you want? Some people on this forum complain about the quality of the 129 satellite -- because of weak signals, I think. Try doing a search on 129 and see if this might be a concern for you.

I'm also in the Pittsburgh market and chose to keep my second dish for the 61 satellite and then replaced my old Dish 500 with the 1000.2 dish that receives 110, 119, and 118.7 (for the Pittsburgh HD locals). This combination provides all the programming (as far as I know) and does not depend on the 129 satellite.

From what i understand the 61.5 Sat. is a mirror of the 129 Sat. Same programing on Both. But the MPEG 4 HD stations are only on Sat. 129 could be wrong . Don't know about the signal strenth in the Pitts. area.

Whats the grace period to go back to my old setup if I'm not staisfied with the
VIP622?

don't worry about them taking the 61.5, they don't take old dishes. Depending on the tech, he might take the lnb.

I live in Apollo, which is 45 min from Pgh and I get a 129 signal of 72-78 consistently. My tech took extra time to tweek to get it in the 70's. This is with the 1000+ dish

You shouldn't have a problem in Pgh with the 129. I've had it for over a year with no issues at all.

Hi 2X10 I live in Ford City. How are your OTA locals? Mine are pretty good except for digital 13 lots of drop outs and signal loss

Apollo is a VERY bad example to compare OTA locals. I bought the best antenna money could buy along with the amplifier etc.... I got kdka at 60-70 sometimes. NBC out of Johnstown at 70 and abc at 65. I could not get fox to save my life and I could never get more than 1 channel at a time. Apollo is lower than the mountains. I didn't want to invest in a motor for the antenna. I did have it reaching the sky though. The neighbors thought I was talking to aliens in the sky.

Climbing the roof everynight is overrated. I am content with the Dish HD locals and yes the OTA HD was better when I was able to get a stable signal

Anyone else in pittsburgh getting annoying audio delays on the local HD? Dish tech said it is a "software issue" and they are working on it. drives me (and more annoyingly, the wife) crazy.

I'm also getting Audio delays on channel 2 (digital OTA) Digital 13 OTA still flacky even with a signal of 98%. Ussally a reboot of the VIP622 will clear up the Audo delay on 2. The installer calls the delay Chinese T.V. Lips move but the sound is 1 sec. behind.

Yes, I get the audio delays too! There were even issues with TNT the other night. I hope they tweek these HD channels soon. Not good for new HD customers.

What you need is a 500+ (110,118,119) and a dish for 61.5 no need for 129
If you have a 1000+ unhook the 129 from switch and put 61.5 in its place
