OK, so I added Playboy TV last week through the website. The price was listed as $14.99, but the fine print said something like "package discounts will be applied automatically if applicable." I was curious what would happen since some sources (not DISH's site though) have said Playboy was now being treated like a regular premium.

Today, I took a look at my online "recent activity". It showed the following...

AMERICA'S EVERYTHING 03/01 TO 03/23 -66.74
AMERICA'S EVERYTHING PAK 03/01 TO 03/23 71.93

If you do the math, 66.74 divided by 23 days times 31 days = 89.95
and 71.93 / 23 X 31 = 96.95

Note that the word "Pak" is missing from the first entry.

Looks to me Playboy is $7 extra as long as you have everything else. Pretty good deal, considering the evening movies are similar to TEN PPV at $11. Watch one movie a month and you're ahead. I hope this carries over to the HD Platnum when I upgrade.

I'm not a big porn expert, but I believe the flicks in the evening follow the same editing standard as TEN, as do the amature videos from what I've seen. I think they call it "partial editing standard". It's definately far more explicit than the old Spice channel we used to watch in college in the early 90's, and only slightly less explicit than DVD porn.

I turned it on this afternoon for a few minutes, and it was a horribly embarrassing softcore flick heavy on the bad plot. I don't know the thinking here- maybe they think the soft stuff is good for housewives. My wife prefers something more hardcore. Believe it or not, I didn't tell her I had subscribed for a few days until I determined it was "dirty enough" for her. If it was just strippers and playmates, she would have been ticked.

Anyway, we will probably just DVR one of the evening movies a few times a month and get more than our money's worth. Just a tip for those that might like to watch an adult movie now and then and can't justify the cost of TEN or the others.

You can tell that a lot of the original programming is shot in HD (It's mostly letterboxed), but that is also mostly softcore.

I added it with the 2 for $20 promo a few days ago. Playboy and HBO, half price versus buying seperate. The late night movies meet what my wife and I were looking for - a few on the DVR and we're good.

Some of the primetime programs are kinda funny and interesting - at least for a few minutes anyway. So far for $5 I am sold. The AEP price of $7 isn't bad either.

My girlfriends were all "dirty" like that. Then I got married with children. Now I'm lucky if I can catch "soft" porn action on Cinemax.

WOW...you can add Playboy and HBO under their 2 for $20 plan??? That's pretty good considering how much HBO and Playboy are per month separately.

How long is the 2 for $20 promotion good for?

Probably until around at least 2/1/07 when the next round of increases will likely happen and maybe not even then. The 2 for $20 is not a special promotion, it is a regular price when you add 2 premium movie packages or 1 movie package and Play Boy to AT120, DHD Silver, DL2 or DLHD Silver or higher basic programing package.

So how much is the Playboy channel if you subscribe to the Dish HD platinum package??

Russ

Well, from what I am gathering, $7 instead of $14.99. I think it is treated the same and AEP.

Maybe Playboy subscriptions are down due to the Extasy/TEN subscriptions or for those not wanting to spend a lot of money on it.

Cool, since I have AT180. I was figuring it was good for 90 days or something. Did you have to call and add them or did you add them online? It appears though that you can't order this online, since Playboy isn't listed under the movie packs, etc. only HBO, Showtime, Max and Starz.

That's why I posted this...there's no mention of the Playboy discount anywhere on the website. It was in the fine print in the 2 for $20 flier in this months bill, but no mention of the other discounts. It's only on some dealer websites that I found the reference to "All five premium packages for $44.99." I wasn't sure if it would carry to AEP- which takes another $3 off, plus free DVR fees and NBA. Hopefully someone can confirm that it applies to HD Platnum as well.

I would assume Playboy gave them incentives to do this, but they probably don't want to promote it because it might cut back on PPV buys. I kind of doubt it. We only got adult PPV once or twice, but now they're getting an extra $7 a month. I think anyone who would buy PPV monthly wouldn't bother with Playboy because of the perception that it's too tame. I think they should promote the heck out of it- there's probably plenty of other people like us out there who just want to take a peek now and then and can't stomach the high prices on the TEN channels.

Just got of the phone with a CSR and she confirmed that if you have Dish HD platinum, you are eligible for the promo and get the $7.00 Playboy deal! She said it is because the platinum pack has the AEP pack in it!

Russ

Hopefully, subscriptions are up due to the lower pricing. I would subscribe to the other channels if they weren't so expensive (I already have Playboy and Extacy). I am NOT going to spend any money on PPV channels, although I would subscribe to them if they were reasonably priced.

Call it the Adult Pak and charge $29.99 for all of them and you'll see a surge in subscribers. The demand is there, most just can't afford it.
